Donald Sutherland Reflects on Storied Career Ahead of Governors Award

Donald Sutherland Reflects on Storied Career Ahead of Governors Award
Despite a storied career and some 180 screen credits, Donald Sutherland has never been nominated for an Academy Award. The closest he can recall being involved is he got to present one once. So he was shocked when he learned he had been selected as one of this year’s honorary Oscar recipients. But he’s been a favorite for some time, no doubt due in large part to the sense that the Academy is tardy in its recognition.

“I don’t think I’m overdue,” Sutherland says, “but certainly we’re running out of time at 82.”

The moment invites reflection on his career — a career that is still very much in progress, as his recent schedule has the professional traveling from Toronto to Los Angeles to Rome to perform at the top of his game for filmmakers including Danny Boyle and James Gray.

He’s had very few bad tastes left in his mouth over the years

Watch The Thrilling Trailer For Marshall Starring Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad And Kate Hudson

Witness the rise of the man who changed America. Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) is Thurgood Marshall.

Also starring Josh Gad, Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, Sterling K. Brown and James Cromwell, watch the exciting trailer now.

Such an dynamic trailer – with a fall season release date, expect to see awards buzz for such a powerful film. Acting, directing, writing, producing categories, including the technical categories for cinematography, costumes, hair and makeup, and production design, with score and song to round out the possible nominations.

Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. The new motion picture, Marshall, is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days – a fight he fought alongside attorney Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), a young lawyer with no experience in criminal law: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.

The film has a top notch production team.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, Marshall is produced by Paula Wagner, Jonathan Sanger ( The Elephant Man, Vanilla Sky, Flight Of The Navigator), and Reginald Hudlin. It is written by Jake Koskoff and Michael Koskoff.

Hudlin co-produced the 88th Academy Awards ceremony in 2016 and was one of the producers of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture for the film.

Paula Wagner launched Cruise/Wagner Productions (C/W) with her former CAA client Tom Cruise. C/W went on to produce such critically acclaimed films as The Others, The Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky, Without Limits, Shattered Glass, Narc, Elizabethtown, and Ask the Dust, as well as Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds (which Wagner executive produced). C/W was responsible for the original Mission: Impossible film trilogy (Mission: Impossible 2 and Mission: Impossible III).

Open Road Films will release Marshall on October 13, 2017. Mark it on your calendar now.

What is James Franco Reading?

A extensive look at all those movies James Franco directed.

James Franco has done a lot of things, we’ve heard. Following a successful turn on Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks and a well-received starring spot on a TNT biopic on James Dean, he turned immediately to a litany of pursuits: from playwriting and English degrees to painting and directing no less than ten feature-lengths. The latter project interested me. Were they any good? In Franco’s Rolling Stone profile last year, Jonah Weiner ran around a thesaurus of words like “dizzying,” “indefatigable“ and, wait for it, “multihyphenate” to describe his subject but none of those words mean very much. Paul Klee painted over a thousand paintings in the penultimate last year of his life. So could I. So what?

“What did we do to deserve James Franco?,” asked Rex Reed in a slightly different era. Back then, even the The Guardian agreed with Jared Kushner

12 Years A Slave Screenwriter John Ridley Wins USC Libraries Scripter Award

Screenwriter John Ridley joined family members of nineteenth-century author Solomon Northup to receive the 26th-annual USC Libraries Scripter Award for “12 Years a Slave.” Selection committee co-chair Howard Rodman announced the winners at the black-tie event on Saturday, Feb. 8, at USC’s Doheny Memorial Library.

“Until I read Solomon’s memoir, I didn’t know what being a writer was all about,” Ridley said in his acceptance speech. “The way that Solomon wrote, the clarity with which he wrote, and more importantly, the strength of his character, what he went through without bitterness, without hate—that really taught me something.”

“12 Years a Slave’s” Scripter win adds to the growing number of awards for the Fox Searchlight film, including best motion picture in the drama category at last month’s Golden Globes. The film is nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Colin Farrell has revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres talkshow that he had a "romantic relationship" with Elizabeth Taylor in the final years of her life.

Farrell met Taylor when his son was being born, when she was being treated in the same hospital. After bumping into her manager, he asked for his regards to be passed on, and later asked his publicist to send her some flowers – only to find that Taylor had just sent him some orchids.

This courtship led to the pair meeting and "a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool... it feels like in my head - not her, I'm projecting - the last romantic relationship I had,

Hugh Grant Takes The Lead In The Pirates! Band Of Misfits

An Aardman Production For Sony Pictures Animation Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen Also On Board

Culver City, Calif. – Hugh Grant will voice the lead role alongside an all-star cast in The Pirates! Band Of Misfits, the new stop-motion, 3D, animated film produced by Aardman Animations for Sony Pictures Animation. The film, which will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, will be released March 30, 2012 in North America.

Hugh Grant, starring in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to

Ronald Reagan Biopic

Another interesting life, and another interesting biopic. So, why not a good movie then?

With some great team it’s definitely possible, so no wonder producers Mark Joseph (Ray), Ralph Winter (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Jonas McCord (Ask the Dust) have begun work on a biopic of Ronald Reagan!

The film will be called Reagan and it will center on the former actor and 40th president of the United States of America.

The material used will mostly come from two best-selling biographies by Paul Kengor: The Crusader and God and Ronald Reagan.

The film will track the entire life of Reagan rom childhood through the presidency.

At this moment we also know that the movie has a 30 million budget and will begin with the 1981 assassination attempt and tells Reagan’s story through flashbacks and flash-forwards.

And yes, that means the project will not be a hit piece either like the

Producers Mark Joseph, Ralph Winter, and Jonas McCord Plan Ronald Reagan Biopic

Producers Mark Joseph (Ray), Ralph Winter (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Jonas McCord (Ask the Dust) have begun work on a biopic of Ronald Reagan. THR reports that the $30 million film will be based off the Reagan biographies The Crusader and God and Ronald Reagan. While the 40th president was the subject of a controversial 2003 miniseries starring James Brolin, this new take have little in common with that approach. The film will begin with the 1981 assassination attempt and then tell Reagan’s story through flashbacks and flash-forwards. It is unknown if we’ll learn that Reagan had left the island and screamed at Nancy that they had to go back.

Hit the jump for my thoughts on the potential pitfalls of a Reagan biopic.

I don’t see a Ronald Reagan biopic succeeding and it wasn’t because people didn’t like the miniseries, which was, to quote Joseph, “an insulting,
