Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not

Breck Eisner (The Crazies, Sahara) will be helming a remake of The Brood, the 1979 horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg. The La Times unearthed this bit of news.
If you’ve been keeping count, Eisner was recently attached to the upcoming remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, but has since been replaced by Ridley Scott protegé Carl Rinsch.
What story could possibly justify the above picture? Hit the jump to find out…
The original film followed an unorthodox psychotherapist and his patients, who were subjected to a technique that explored their negative emotions and created physical manifestations of their grief, anger etc. in the form of welts and other disfigurements on their bodies.

‘The Birds’ Remake Gets A New Director?

The last time we reported on the completely unnecessary remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic The Birds, it looked to be dead on the ground, at least for the time being. Sadly, however, it appears the remake is still on its way, and it may have found a new director.
Casino Royale director, Martin Campbell, had been attached up until this point to direct The Birds. However, a little project called Green Lantern came along, and evidently The Birds got brushed to the side and almost forgot about. According to Pajiba, their inside source in The Hollywood Cog says that Campbell is no longer helming the $60 million project, which is set up at Michael Bay’s horror remake-prone production company, Platinum Dunes (the studio responsible for the remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, amongst others).

The current trend in Hollywood to "reimagine" or "reboot" a movie franchise rather than create a sequel continues. This time, it's a horror movie that has already been rebooted in recent years. The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, according to Bloody Disgusting, are planning on rebooting The Amityville Horror less than five years after producer Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes reimagined the 1979 original.
Based on the 1977 book The Amityville Horror: A True Story by Jay Anson, the original movie starred James Brolin and Margot Kidder as newlyweds who are driven out of their house in Amityville, New York, by evil entities from beyond the grave. The 2005 version starred Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George and was marketed by MGM as being based on new information about the supposedly true events.
Other than the news that an unspecified director may already be in talks to direct the reboot, there's no other information about the project.

Viral marketing when done right can feel like an extra added layer of goodness on top of a project we're all excited about. When done poorly it feels like schills shoving crap down your throat that you have no interest in whatsoever. Part of the original, 1979 film’s tagline says it all. For God’s sake, Dimension Films, don’t go through with this project. According to Bloody Disgusting, the Weinstein-backed genre studio is prepping a remake of The Amityville Horror. No, you didn’t get into a DeLorean, and, no, we didn’t just jettison ourselves back to 2004. Platinum Dunes did release a remake of the film in 2005 starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, but that isn’t stopping Dimension from turning around five years later to do the exact, same thing.
According to Bloody Disgusting (and their source) a director is already in talks to helm the project. Until recently, MGM was planning on doing an Amityville-centric film, The Amityville Tapes. Their recent financial issues have, to say the very least, put a hamper in that film’s projection.
The 2005 version of the film was anything if not a success.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the Weinstein Co and Dimension Films are planning to remake The Amityville Horror. It's slightly strange news considering it's only been four years since the last remake by Platinum Dunes back in 2005, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George and grossed over $108 million worldwide.
The original film, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, was a cult favourite back in 1979 and was adapted from the book which was said to document the real life paranormal experiences of the Lutz family in their home in Amityville, New York, although there has since always been controversy and speculation as to whether this was really the case.
Of course, with the hype surrounding Paranormal Activity at the moment, which is a film in very much the same vein as The Amityville Horror, it's hardly surprising that the Weinsteins may be looking to exploit the "real life" paranormal zeitgeist that's pervaded cinema this year.

As if Dimension Films didn't already have enough garbage on their upcoming slate, they're going ahead and adding yet another tired horror remake onto the pile as Bloody-Disgusting discovered that they are planning to remake The Amityville Horror. This comes only four years after the Platinum Dunes produced remake directed by Andrew Douglas grossed over $100 million internationally. Without specifics mentioned, there's apparently already a director in talks to develop the project, but with all the problems the Weinstein's have had recently with delayed pictures and halted production, who knows when this could get off the ground?

Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning yet another remake of "The Amityville Horror" reports Bloody Disgusting.
The 1979 cult horror classic was based on a true story and deals with a family moving into their apparent Long Island dream house, only to discover a murder took place in the house several years back and the place is now haunted.
Andrew Douglas directed the 2005 remake produced by Platinum Dunes that grossed over $100 million at the box office worldwide. Critical reviews were not very good for the film which has gone on to become more famous for showing off a very muscular Ryan Reynolds than actually provoking terror.
Bd indicates a director already in talks to develop the project but no word on a production schedule as yet.
