In the beginning, there was something kitschy about the next comedy from Accepted director Steve Pink. Titled Hot Tub Time Machine, the movie follows four friends (John Cusak, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke) who are transported back to the 80s by a hot tub at a ski resort. Yeah, kitschy, and ripe with potential.
After seeing the first trailer -- which MGM debuted on Yahoo earlier today -- I'm convinced that this movie will not only be kitschy and silly, but also uninspired and in many ways downright stupid. This is usually where I would explore some of the alleged humor from the trailer, but I think I will just let you drink it in for yourself below. But know this, there's something terribly unfunny about every moment of this trailer that does not involve Craig Robinson. That does not bode well for the film.
Hot Tub Time Machine is in theaters March 19, 2010.

Last December we reported that 20th Century Fox had hired Daniel McDermott (Eagle Eye) to write a remake of the 1984 Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner film, Romancing the Stone. We were a tad snide with our editorializing.
With increasingly good reason, it would seem. Pajiba is reporting that the film is moving forward, and that Robert Luketic (Legally Blone, The Ugly Truth) could be tapped to direct the project. Luketic is perhaps not the most respected director in Hollywood. As Pajiba describes it: He directed The Ugly Truth and Monster-in-Law, two very bad movies that apparently allowed him to fall on his ass backwards up the Hollywood ladder.
Luketic also has Barbarella in development, a film in which few seem to have any confidence, chiefly because of his involvement.
All of which begs the question: Why bother with this Romancing the Stone remake at all, since it's likely to be just

"Twilight Saga" star Kellan Lutz knows how to be romantic. In an interview with Twist magazine, the actor who is seen reprising his role as Emmett Cullen in "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" shares on what he would do to give his date one perfect date, which includes taking the girl to a small island to watch sunset.
"I took my ex-girlfriend to this little island in California called Catalina once," the 24-year-old recalls on a date he had once as cited by Just Jared Jr. "I had a buddy of mine go there earlier that day and lay rose petals down on this beautiful hillside, so when we got there it was waiting for us. We had a picnic by candlelight and watched the sun go down. It was nice!"

Former 20th Century Fox chairman Peter Chernin is developing a movie for the studio about the life's story of Moses. According to Variety, the project will be told more in the style of Braveheart rather than Cecil B. DeMille's now classic The Ten Commandments.
The screenplay is to be written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Accepted), the writers who just finished a draft of another retelling of a famous story, that being Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is attached to direct that one for Universal.
Moses is one of the Bible's most important players in the Old Testament. Born the son of a slave, the infant Moses was given up by his birth mother and raised by an Egyptian princess as a member of their royal family. When he discovers his true parentage, Moses is called upon by God to lead the Israelites from out of bondage and Egypt.

It's time to pray and kick ass - biblical style.
That's right, The Bible is totally selling out. First Jesus went all Hollywood, combining forces with Mel Gibson to make The Passion of The Christ and now Moses is trying to one-up him with his newest project: His life, 300-style. That's right, Moses is going full-out action. Fox has bought a pitch for a script about the life of Moses, starting with him almost dying as a baby, continuing on with his adoption into the Egyptian royal family followed by him totally dissing the Pharoah and finally the face off and freedom of the Hebrews. You know, same old... But wait!
It's not just the same old thing, with the plagues on Egypt and parting of the Red Sea and what not, there's more. The script will also take pointers from various scriptures and other historical documents made about Moses which wasn't in The Bible.

Here is an interesting story coming from Variety today (thanks to Coming Soon for the heads up): apparently Adam Cooper (Trump Heist) and Bill Collage (Accepted) have been “short-strawed” by 20th Century Fox to pen the script for an adaptation of the Biblical story of Moses.
Cooper and Collage recently turned in a script to Universal for the big screen story of Herman Meville’s Moby Dick, which is to be directed by Tim Bekmambetov (9, Wanted) and shouldn’t be confused with the recent TV movie project Moby Dick by The Tele Munchen Group.
The story for the film will apparently follow Moses from infancy, when he was left in a basket in the reeds, to his leading the Jews out of Egyptian slavery and across the Red Sea. Here’s the odd part: the story was pitched to Fox as a 300-esque style movie. I’m not quite sure what that means.

Move over Charlton Heston. Variety writes that 20th Century Fox plans on producing a new cinematic version of Exodus. As if that weren't enough, they want to do it in the style of 300. Yes, that 300 — the male meat-fest from "visionary director" Zack Snyder.
Hmmm ... so can we count on seeing a Moses who's less world-weary and wise than he is lean and mean with ripped abs? Should we expect: "Let my people go, you scum-sucking Egyptian!"? Or a desert scene with Israelites sampling heaven's food before crying out, "This ... is ... Manna!!!"
The script will be written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Accepted), who have already been approved to draft a graphic novel-style adaptation of Herman Melville's classic Moby Dick for director Timur Bekmambetov. We certainly love graphic novels and the way they've gained acceptance as a legitimate artform. But seriously . . . Moby Dick?

20th Century Fox is developing a retelling of the Biblical story of Moses, the Old Testament survivor of death and adversity who freed the Hebrews from slavery and persecution. The script will be written by Bill Collage and Adam Cooper, notable for rewriting a draft of Moby Dick for 9 director Timur Bekmambetov as well as writing the comedy Accepted.
Produced by Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark, the Moses film is being pitched as Braveheart meets 300, and while I get the appeal of trying to bundle a biblical story in Zack Snyder-esque packaging, I can’t help but be turned off by it at the same time. Should we expect Egyptian slave drivers to deliver punishing blows on exaggerated, glossy, speed-ramped sets? While they may certainly just be talking about cinematography, it seems odd to market a film of this sort using the most blatantly sensationalistic film of the past 5 years as a reference point.

It looks like Hollywood is all out of books to adapt, because now they're looking to adapt stories from the book. That's right, the world's best-selling book of all time, the Holy Bible, is headed to the big screen in a big way. Or at least a part of it will end up there as Variety reports that former News Corp. president Peter Chernin will take on his "first significant film project acquisition" for Fox as he aims to deliver a "retelling of the story of Moses, from his near death as an infant to his adoption into the Egyptian royal family, his defiance of the Pharaoh and deliverance of the Hebrews from enslavement." Well aren't we modest?
Of course, this doesn't sound like it's going to be your grandparent's Moses, because the story (written by Accepted writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage) was conceived in the same vein as

The $25 million made-for-tv adaptation of Herman Melville’s iconic tale, Moby Dick, has added Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Charlie Cox (Stardust) and Donald Sutherland (It’s Donald Sutherland) to their already talented cast. As we’ve previously reported, William Hurt and Ethan Hawke have already signed on to star as the obsessive Captain Ahab (Hurt) and his unruly first officer, Starbuck (Hawke).
With Moby Dick being the most expensive production to date for Tele Munchen Group (Tmg), they’re leaving nothing to chance. Nigel Williams has penned the script with Mike Barker directing. Barker is best known for directing the critically acclaimed, Sea Wolf, while Williams famously wrote the script for the award-winning 2005 miniseries, Elizabeth I. Both Sea Wolf and Elizabeth I are Tmg productions.

A "Gossip Girl" star will be seen playing a part in "The Town". Blake Lively, the actress who plays lead character Serena van der Woodsen in The CW's popular teen drama, has come on board Warner Bros. and Legendary's next crime thriller project.
The 22-year-old is tapped to take the role of Ben Affleck's troubled ex-girlfriend who happens to be Jeremy Renner's sister. She is expected to join others in the cast ensemble, which include Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall, when production begins in Boston sometime in September.
Set for September 10, 2010 U.S. release, "The Town" is an adaptation of Chuck Hogan's novel "Prince of Thieves". It revolves around a bank manager, a career criminal, and a dedicated FBI agent who tries to bust the crook and his gang. Chris Cooper is in negotiations to join the cast. Graham King and Basil Iwanyk produce, and Afflect directs as well as co-writes.

If this weekend's box office were a comedian, it might have been heckled off the stage, mostly for its dullness. Between the main new release, Funny People, which always had sketchy prospects despite high profile talent, and the cumulative effect of a relatively soft July slate, overall business amounted to $127.6 million, which was off 17 percent from the same weekend last year and low for the time of the year. What's more, the summer as a whole became on par with last summer through the same point, dwindling from the lead it had racked up in May and June. Headlining the weak weekend, Funny People drew $22.7 million on approximately 4,100 screens at 3,007 sites, which was significantly less than director Judd Apatow's previous picture, Knocked Up, and even behind his first, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, in terms of attendance. Here's the first red band teaser for Steve Pink's upcoming comedy "Hot Tub Time Machine," which stars John Cusack and is set for release Feb. 26, 2010.
The film follows a group of adults who jump into a hot tub and are transported back in time, to when they were much younger. Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke and Chevy Chase co-star.
Judging solely by this teaser, "Hot tub" looks rather crappy. Sure, Robinson delivers one or two of his usual, vulgar lines, but apart from that, this one's darn lame.
Pink also directed 2006's comedy "Accepted," which I failed to enjoy as well. I can only hope this hot tub thing will turn out better than this preview makes it out to be.

Do you like hot tubs? Have you ever sat in your room wishing you could go back in time and make up for all of your short-comings as a teenager? Well, someone had the absolutely brilliant idea to combine both items and give us the awesomest movie idea to ever come out of Hollywood (well besides Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus) - Hot Tub Time Machine.
Director Steve Pink (Accepted) teams up with writers Josh Heald and Andrew Mogel to try and bring some laughs and originality to the Hot Tub Time Machine. This is Heald’s first credited writing attempt and the second for Mogel who wrote the screenplay for Jim Carrey’s Yes Man. These three guys may not have a lot of background in directing and writing but that hasn’t stopped the 34th Street Films movie from picking up some pretty big names to star.

First look at "Hot Tub Time Machine" has been provided by MGM using the film's recently-released red band trailer. Debuted first at San Diego Comic Con 2009, the restricted promo video traces back to the year of 1560 to recall which notable people had thought of the idea of time traveling, before presenting the four main characters.
The time-travel comedy follows a group of burned out 30-something best friends who've drifted apart since high school. Trying to relive their younger years once again, they take a trip to Pine Valley Lodge, home of their most cherished teenage memories. After a night of vodka and Red Bulls in a hot tub, they find themselves sent back to 1986. Now, they have the opportunity to relive their fun-loving past.

When it was first announced earlier this year that there was a movie in development called Hot Tub Time Machine, I don't think anyone believed that it would actually get made. But hey, let's not forget, we are living in the post-Snakes on a Plane era, and thus, the first trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine has finally arrived online. So guess what? It's happening!
To be honest, I like the goofy concept, which simply involves a group of four grown-up friends who accidentally travel back in time to the '80s to relive their teenage years. I also like the cast, which includes John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke, plus Chevy Chase, Lizzy Caplan and Crispin Glover. The problem is, this movie really could go either way, and the trailer looks like it was simply thrown together in a couple hours (on the plus side, it is red band,
