Sex & Nudity

TV-MA for sexuality and nudity, disturbing violent content and gore, some language, and for drug/alcohol use

This show has various scenes of nude men and women in both sexual and non sexual situations. Incest, adultery, fornication, sodomy, lesbianism, and sex between married heterosexuals are portrayed in this series. Both full and partial nudity of both the male and female characters is shown. These sexual scenes are explicit.

Violence & Gore

There are a number of bloody fight scenes where people are stabbed and impaled with spears and beaten in this series. The violence is graphic. Some characters are graphically crucified and whipped. There are verbal references to other types of violence being inflicted on people. People are decapitated and some lose limbs in battle. As part of different religious cermonies the blood of animals are applied to people's bodies. In one scene a bull is sacrificed on a platform above a female and the blood of the bull pours down over the woman.

Profanity

The characters curse about various gods they worship. They also use modern and Roman swears of various sorts.

The characters drink alcohol in various scenes. There are scenes of opium and hemp being smoked.

In season 1, Mark Antony presumably forces himself on a female goat herder. Though not graphic, it is implied she has no choice in the act which thus qualifies as rape. Might be upsetting to those sensitive to rape.

In season 2, a woman is kidnapped, tortured, and raped. Though the rape and most of the torture are not seen, you can hear the screams. It would be frightening to those sensitive to rape.
