William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar takes place in a world of male power and dominance. The Rome of Shakespeare?s play is an arena of male competition, in which the female characters attempt to avert tragedy but find themselves powerless to do so. The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company takes on this testosterone-filled play with an entirely female cast, exploring the performance of gender and challenging preconceptions of male and female. Alisha Huber directs a cast featuring Pigeon Creek actors Heather Folkvord as Brutus, Katherine Mayberry as Cassius, and Kate Bode as Caesar.

NBC's new drama "The Philanthropist" might be a hit with viewers, but it's a bust with Council on Foundations president Steve Gunderson, who says the show starring James Purefoy (Marc Antony in "Rome") is misleading.
"The show is a romanticized, action-adventure depiction of a powerful businessman's efforts to find meaning in his life by applying his fortune and acumen to the problems of struggling communities in developing countries," Gunderson wrote in an e-mail to members. "While some elements may ring true, very little

It isn’t often that I’ll watch low budget horror fare and go away thinking “that’s a pretty good film”, but tonight that’s exactly what I thought after popping Red Mist into the trusty DVD player.
Red Mist (or “Freakdog” in the States) is directed by “Shrooms” helmer Paddy Breathnach and stars Arielle Kebbel (”The Uninvited”, “Gilmore Girls”), Andrew Lee Potts (”Primeval”, “Ideal”), Alex Wyndham (”Little Dorrit”, “Rome”) and Colin Stinton (”House of Saddam”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”), the film hits UK theatres on 3rd July 2009.
The medical students at Forthaven General Hospital study hard and party harder, until a cruel prank accidentally puts the facility’s creepy janitor into a deep coma. But when one responsible student tries to revive the degenerate loner with an experimental injection, she instead sends his brainwaves berserk. Will a sudden spree of sick kicks now claim the guilty one-by-one, or has

The Philanthropist, starring James Purefoy (HBO’s Rome, A Knight’s Tale, Resident Evil) as Teddy Rist, started off by confusing me a bit but by the end of the episode, I found the story to have a compelling emotional element that kept me tuned in.
The show opens in the middle of a chase scene where Rist is being fired upon by some locals while on a river bank, barefoot in a jungle somewhere. We then jump to a bar scene where he’s chatting with a young lady while she’s bar tending and he explains in a backtrack sort of fashion how he came to being shot at on this riverbank.
They use this venue of Rist talking with the bartender to recant a quick history of how he got to this point of time.

I got a chance to watch the pilot for NBC’s new show The Philanthropist, which debuts tonight at 10Pm/9C, and I have to say while I was quite entertained for most of it , I was also somewhat underwhelmed as well. Its not that the show is bad or anything, quite the contrary. It has great production value, lots of action, a mostly engaging cast and even a morale. I just prefer my morals slightly less “in your face.”
By way of backstory, The Philanthropist follows the adventures of Billionaire playboy Teddy Rist, the “99th-richest man in the world” and his search for the meaning of it all after his son dies tragically a year prior. Teddy is undergoing a “crisis of conscience” and realizes that just writing a check isn’t enough anymore, he needs to “do something” in order to make a difference in the world. While I applaud that sentiment,

Someone’s moving to 10/9c Wednesdays on NBC, and his name is Teddy Rist. He’s all about living the life that only a billionaire playboy could, until a life-altering event involving a little boy changes his entire perspective, and turns his life around. The Philanthropist tells the ongoing story of his journey through Western Africa, slogging vaccine (and his undeniably handsome face) to afflicted villages, and managing his money a little better. What brought about this change in him? A little boy, who forced him to lay aside selfishness, and who saved him while on a routine business trip to Nigeria. As we see Teddy’s metamorphosis to Mr. Altruism begin to take place, we learn that he is mourning the loss of his young son, and saving the little boy starts to fill this hole in his heart. The more he thinks about it, he despises the former life he led.

I met John McHugh in the autumn of 1966, when I was a cub reporter on the Sun-Times and he was a rewrite man, two years my senior, on the Chicago Daily News. We are still best friends. He worked the overnight shift, and among his duties was taking calls from readers. After midnight, they wanted to settle bets. "And what do you say?" McHugh would ask. He would listen, and then reply, "You're 100% correct. Put the other guy on." Pause. "And what do you say?" Pause. "You're 100% correct." If he was asked for his name, he said, "John T. Greatest, spelled with three Ts."
One night in autumn 1969 we found ourselves in the Old Town Gate, three blocks from our customary posts at O'Rourke's Pub. "I had my first job in Chicago here," he reminisced. "I invented the Roquefort Burger. Somebody ordered a cheeseburger and I, being a dumb Mick,

Previously here at The Flickcast, we brought you the first promo for the new show The Philanthropist, which premieres June 24th on NBC. The show is an interesting mix of action, drams, suspense and seems to have great production value, an interesting and talented cast and all of the other ingredients that usually go into a hit show. Its one that will undoubtedly make its way onto our Tivos so we can check it out.
To further illustrate this point, we’ve got another promo for the show to, well, show. In this one, billionaire Teddy Rist who, according to NBC’s info, “loves women, money and power but after the tragic death of his only child, has an awakening and becomes the world’s first vigilante philanthropist”, saves a boy from drowning, hand carries a vaccine across mountains to villagers, gets shot at and is told he’s “not a superhero.

We learned long ago not to pay too much attention to this business about "there can only be one." And here it comes. A Highlander reboot is in the planning stages, with rumor, or perhaps just fantasy, placing Rome's Kevin McKidd in the star role as Connor MacLeod. But it's not just the actors and the script that would be updated. It's the weapons as well.
In the original, it's all about swords and axes, anything with an edge. There are strict rules about how you take your opponent's head. One important rule is no guns. But an advance script review for the planned reboot reveals that in this version anything goes.
Advised early on by his mentor to become proficient with the weapons of whatever time period he is in, MacLeod later tries to take out his nemesis Kurgan from a safe distance with a sniper rifle. Presumably

I’m a fan of TV shows with action, suspense, good acting, fast cars and well-written episodes. Sometimes many of those elements come together to form great television programs such as The X-Files, The Wire, Dollhouse or Fringe. NBC ’s got a program that debuts next Winter, in the post-Heroes timeslot, called The Philanthropist and it looks like, at least based on the promo and info, it may end up being another one of those shows that just works.
The show, in case you’re not familiar, concerns billionaire Teddy Rist who, according to NBC’s info about the show, “loves women, money and power. After the tragic death of his only child, Teddy has an awakening and becomes the world’s first vigilante philanthropist — a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth, connections and power to help people in need.” Sounds interesting.
Even better is that the show is produced by by Universal Media Studios,

The film will be directed by Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher) with Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter) and Val Kilmer (Heat) also set to star. After much speculation, Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh have now chosen the actor to star in the upcoming "Thor" film. That actor is Chris Hemsworth, who can currently be seen in theaters as George Kirk in Jj Abrams' "Star Trek." He was also just cast as the lead in the "Red Dawn" remake, taking the role of Jed Eckert, originally played by Patrick Swayze. Currently, he is filming Joss Whedon's horror film "Cabin in the Woods." Hemsworth is 25 years old and is 6'3 tall. The site adds that Marvel wanted Daniel Craig to play Thor, but the James Bond actor turned it down. Kevin McKidd ("Rome") and WWE champion Triple-h were also considered. The following actors tested for the role: Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy"), Todd Hiddleston ("The Gathering Storm"), Alexandar Skarsgard ("True Blood"), Liam Hemsworth (Chris' brother) and Joel Kinnaman.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting Chris Hemsworth is set to take on the title role in Kenneth Branagh's Thor, the filmed adaptation of the Marvel comic first launched back in 1962. Hemsworth can currently be seen on the big screen in Star Trek playing the ill-fated father of James T. Kirk. Finke at Deadline is also reporting he will be playing the lead in United Artists' upcoming remake of Red Dawn. This, on top of currently filming Cabin in the Woods for Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) who penned that script with Joss Whedon. Finke adds a small bit of back-story to the casting note saying how Hemsworth tested for the role of Thor early on but was passed on, only to have his agent, William Ward at Roar Management, recommend his name once again late in the game. They agreed, and after doing so were quite impressed. Branagh reportedly came to

Nikki Finke won't have to use her eternally annoying trademark line 'Toldja!' this time, as she appears to be quite clearly the first on the scene with news of the casting of the title role in Marvel's upcoming adventure Thor. According to Finke, the role of Thor will be played by 25-year old Australian actor Chris Hemsworth. The former Home and Away star was most recently seen as George Kirk -- the ill-fated father of James T. Kirk -- in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot and has also been cast in the lead role in the upcoming Red Dawn remake, which MGM is currently developing. The casting decision was made by Marvel President Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh today, ending a long bout with public speculation from sites across the web. It is rumored that James Bond star Daniel Craig turned down the role. As well, it was rumored that everyone from Rome's
