Hans Zimmer Replaces Jack White To Pen Lone Ranger Score

14 December 2012 3:44 PM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Back in April, we told you how the former White Stripes singer-guitarist Jack White would write, produce and perform the score for their upcoming big-budget iteration of The Lone Ranger.

Well, that’s not true, but it sounded good. However, White is no longer working on The Lone Ranger score and frequent Gore Verbinski collaborator Hans Zimmer is now the man behind the film score.

Zimmer previously composed the unforgettable score for the director’s Pirates of the Caribbean films.

White has reportedly contributed several pieces of music to the production. His bluesy, folks-rooted style seems perfectly oriented for the material, but White became logistically unavailable when the film’s release date was pushed from May to July.

Therefore, scheduling issues really did keep White from finishing his work on the film.

As for Zimmer, who also scores to the director’s The Weather Man and Rango, this is the »

Nicholas Hoult is fast becoming and young actor on the rise throughout Hollywood. Following acclaimed roles in The Weather Man and A Single Man, he found himself thrust into the mainstream with the excellent X-men: First Class and (unfortunately) Clash Of The Titans. He’s currently shooting George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road opposite Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron but romantic zombie drama Warm Bodies will mark his first lead role before Bryan Singer’s forthcoming fantasy blockbuster, Jack The Giant Killer.

Here we have the first trailer for the Jonathan Levine-directed undead love story, which sees Hoult’s walking dead corpse ‘R’, fall for the stunning Teresa Palmer’s Julie after saving her from a zombie onslaught.

Warm Bodies will arrive in cinemas 1st February 2013 in the Us and week later, 8th February in the UK, and co-stars the impressive supporting cast of Dave Franco, Rob Corddry, »

2012: The Year of the Arrow

21 June 2012 6:12 PM, PDT | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

This article started out as a "Best Archery Movies" List in celebration of the much-ignored bow and arrow finally getting mass recognition through movies like The Hunger Games, The Avengers, Brave, and even the upcoming TV show "Arrow" based on comic book hero Green Arrow. I hit a snag though; the only other archery movies seem to have a combination of "Robin" and "Hood" in the title. I mean, the best non-Merry Men thing to happen to the weapon in the last century of filmmaking was Avatar, since the earthy Na'vi used the device rather than modern arms.

Before this year, archery never really got its moment to shine in Western history. Sure the bow and arrow is the second-oldest designed weapon in human history, but its always played a support role to the highly mythological sword or whatever big stick the army was carrying. Granted arrows were bigger in many Eastern cultures, »

Amanda Peet Will Commit 'Identity Theft' With Jason Bateman & Melissa McCarthy

30 March 2012 1:25 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

For a while there at the tail end of the '90s, it seemed like Amanda Peet was poised to be the next big thing. And then....well, that didn't exactly happen. Not that she stopped working, but it seems she wisely decided to work with respected talent on films like "Melinda & Melinda," "Syriana" and the severely underappreciated "Please Give" while still paying the bills with odd blockbusters like "2012" here and there. But her name is being mentioned a bit more these days. She's got a role in Terrence Malick's untitled romance, a new show on NBC, and now she's headed back to the big screen to deliver some comedy with two of the best in the business.

Peet will join Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy in "Identity Theft." Seth Gordon, the man behind "Horrible Bosses," will direct the movie about a man whose identity is stolen by a woman, »

Melissa McCarthy & Jason Bateman's 'Identity Thief' Steals May 10, 2013 Release Date

2 March 2012 1:34 PM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With "Bridesmaids" arriving in theaters on May 13th last year and becoming one of the biggest comedies of 2011, and suprisingly, an awards season player, Universal isn't rocking the boat with the next big Melissa McCarthy comedy.

The studio has dated "Identity Thief" (previously known as "Identity Theft") with nearly the exact same date -- May 10, 2013. Produced by and co-starring Jason Bateman, with "Horrible Bosses" helmer Seth Gordon behind the camera, and a script from Steve Conrad ("The Pursuit Of Happyness," "The Weather Man") and Craig Mazin ("The Hangover Part II"), all we know for now is that the movie centers a man whose identity is stolen by a woman. A pretty solid premise, and we can't wait to see where it will go.

The Oscar nominee will have to wrap up her work on the demeaning "Mike & Molly" on CBS before this starts rolling, »

Horrible Bosses Director Seth Gordon Re-Teams With Jason Bateman on The ID Theft

18 January 2012 12:54 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Universal Pictures have hired Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon to helm The ID Theft, an original comedy that reunites Gordon with leading man & producer Jason Bateman. Obviously Gordon himself wasn’t so much of a horrible boss in Bateman’s eyes!

The film stars Bateman as a victim of identity theft caused by a character played by Melissa McCarthy in what will be her first post-Bridesmaids gig. Shooting will begin in April when McCarthy’s CBS show ‘Mike & Molly’ is on hiatus.

Jerry Eeten wrote the original screenplay as a two-male actor piece but subsequent re-writes by Steve Conrad (The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness) and Craig Mazin (The Hangover 2) has somewhere along the line changed the sex of the criminal to a female to suit McCarthy. From the sounds of things Bateman was instrumental in getting McCarthy and Gordon for the film, the hiring of the latter »

Seth Gordon Set to Direct Identity Theft Starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy

17 January 2012 9:05 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon has chosen his next film, reteaming with Jason Bateman for a comedy called Identity Theft. In case you can't guess, the movie will be about a guy (Bateman) who gets his identity stolen, after which hijinks ensue (shocking, right?). The person responsible for the theft will be played by rising star Melissa McCarthy. Originally, her part was written for a man, but Jason Bateman, who is also producing, was so won over by McCarthy's performance in Bridesmaids that he had the script changed specifically for her. Originated by Jerry Eeten, the script has undergone rewrites from Steve Conrad (The Weather Man) and Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). Production should start by this coming April when McCarthy's show Mike and Molly goes on hiatus. After the success of Horrible Bosses at the box office, Gordon has had plenty of opportunities thrown his way, including Horrible Bosses »

Seth Gordon Will Commit 'Identity Theft' With Melissa McCarthy & Jason Bateman

17 January 2012 10:57 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

First announced last summer, and expected to be Melissa McCarthy's first post-"Bridesmaids" starring project, not much had been heard about "Identity Theft" since. But it looks like the plans to shoot this during McCarthy's hiatus from the dreadful CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly" are coming together, as a director has been roped in. "Horrible Bosses" director Seth Gordon will re-team with his bud Jason Bateman (who is also producing the film) and take the reins of the upcoming comedy. Penned by Steve Conrad ("The Pursuit Of Happyness," "The Weather Man") with Craig Mazin ("The Hangover Part II") doing a rewrite, the premise originally centered on two men, one who steals the identity of the other. But once Bateman saw McCarthy's comedic chops in "Bridesmaids," he championed her for the role of the identity thief, and it was a smart move. McCarthy may need to add Oscar nominee to her. »
