Sundown is a short and simple western morality tale. The director echoes Sergio Leone's style quite well and adds an interesting twist to the classic gunfight. It's surprisingly thought- provoking for a ten minute film especially when much of that time is spent on the stand off itself. It manages to be both suspenseful and moving.

The performances are adequate to get the point across. The gunfighter isn't quite old enough to be convincing while the other character is a mystery. He seems too young to be a cowboy and too old for the part he's playing. However his performance is emotionally-powerful and I will not forget the expressions on his face during and after the gunfight.

Production value on the film is somewhat low, but the crew did a good job of dealing with what they had. The mood is set by what you don't see. You're adequately transported to the west simply by not seeing the old towns or horses. The budget on the IMDb page is surprisingly low, so perhaps this crew deserves its "Monsters of Effeciency" title. They say it was shot in one day, which is great achievement for a ten minute film.

Overall, these college students pulled off a good effort. I've seen it twice now, and it won most of the awards at the one film festival. There's talent evident in the work and I look forward to seeing what this crew comes out with next. Glad that they made it on IMDb.
