'Silent Hill: Shattered Memories' Review - Flashlight In The Pan!

23 December 2009 2:04 PM, PST | MTV Multiplayer | See recent MTV Multiplayer news »

The original "Silent Hill" is a bona fide classic. It isn't the first example of a survival horror game, but it's one of the best. And it spawned a series that still continues to today, right up to Konami's recently released "Silent Hill: Shattered Memories." A return to the first game's story, "Shattered Memories" allows players to relive the initial trip to that creepy town with new, Wii-powered visuals and a fresh approach to the gameplay.

The Basics

"Silent Hill: Shattered Memories" is essentially a rehash of the first game. The setup is at least: Harry Mason and his daughter Cheryl are knocked out in a car crash at the opening. When Harry comes to, Cheryl is gone and his memory is fuzzy, confused. From there, the story veers sharply off course as players investigate the town of Silent Hill in their search for the missing child.

Brittany Murphy's Uso Tour Appearance, 'Avatar' In 3D And 'Toy Story 3' Finished In Today's Twitter-Wood

22 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a Uso tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.

You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009.

Terror Tidbits (Fango #290): Mad About The Crazies

21 December 2009 10:00 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Blam! Brains and blood splatter the windshield of a big rig as the character who just took a shot to the head flies backward, slamming down on the concrete. Elsewhere in the truck bay/workshop, the smell of burning flesh hangs heavy in the air (actually, the chemical stench of a previously safely-on-fire stuntman). Gunfire echoes in the hangar-sized building; “Cut!” is called, playback watched, and then on to another setup on the remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies.

It’s a slightly nippy March night in Georgia, and day 12 of the nine-week shoot on the latest gruesome facelift of a ’70s horror movie, being directed on a significantly higher budget by Breck Eisner (whose credits include Sahara and Fear Itself’s The Sacrifice). Having an estimated $25 million to play with gives Eisner the opportunity to take Romero’s core concept and give it an action-packed approach the »

Check out 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' star Jodelle Ferland in 'Wonderful World'

The littlest cast member of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Jodelle Ferland, is no newcomer to the film world. You might remember her as "Jeliza-Rose" in Tideland and "Sharon" in Silent Hill. Of course, she's been in quite a few other pictures over the years as well, including Good Luck Chuck, The Messengers (with Kristen Stewart), and Seed. One of her films, Wonderful World with Matthew Broderick and Sanaa Lathan, opens in theaters on January 8th, according to MTV, and a clip of Jodelle Ferland's performance a »

Games: Review:Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

20 December 2009 10:00 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The biggest question about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is why it has that name. It’s billed as a “re-imagining” of the first title in the groundbreaking psychological horror franchise, but that’s a bit generous—it revisits the premise of Harry Mason’s search for his missing child following a car crash, but otherwise, there’s little to recognize. Even the titular town, known for being alternately foggy and rusty, has been reconceptualized as a town of perpetual snow that ices over when things get scary. And things get wonderfully scary. Shattered Memories accomplishes a significant feat in making »

'Crazies' Remake Gets a New Trailer

12 December 2009 9:20 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Courtesy of Overture Films, Yahoo Movies! has just released a new trailer for the upcoming horror film The Crazies, director Breck Eisner's remake of the 1973 George A. Romero flick. You can watch the trailer using the player below.

The story concerns the inhabitants of a small Kansas town who are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply.

This remake feels very old school to us, invoking the sort of cerebral, atmospheric scare tactics that always work better than buckets of blood and sudden appearances by knife-wielding masked freaks. It's a better offering than the first trailer, which didn't really seem to give us much substantive sense of what was going to happen in the film. This trailer does a much better job of that.

Starring Timothy Olyphant (Hitman), Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th »
