You're going to have to squint really hard and play 'Where's Waldo?' to find him, but we're pretty sure Johnny Depp is dressed as Capt. Jack Sparrow somewhere in a new cast and crew photo that has just arrived from the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales set. Today is National Talk Like a Pirate Day. And of course, Walt Disney Pictures wasn't going to let the holiday go by without sharing a little something from their new movie. Sure, a trailer isn't ready yet, and probably won't be until sometime in 2016. This fifth chapter in the popular franchise doesn't even open until 2017. But we do get this cool souvenir, which is made to look like it came from a photo op at Disneyland.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. He smiled – grinned would be a more appropriate word – on the Gore Verbinski-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, »

Disney confirmed they will "absolutely prohibit" the depiction of 'smoking', including cigarettes, cigars and weed, for all PG-13 rated productions that fall under their company umbrella including Marvel Studios films.
But will the Disney ban also extend to prohibiting the depiction of excessive violence, evident in past films designated with a PG-13 rating, including "Lone Ranger" with its scores of onscreen deaths and cannibalism ?

As VFX technology marches on at speed, more and more of our favourite movie characters are being brought to life by actors driving a performance capture digital creation.
Though Andy Serkis's Caesar from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Sharlto Copley's Chappie sit at the cutting edge today, in its current form it actually stretches back nearly 20 years to Star Wars's much-maligned Jar Jar Binks.
Go back even further and take into account rotoscoping - animators drawing over an actors' performance frame-by-frame - it's possible to mark Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as a landmark film in 1937. There, an actress was used as the basis for the titular princess.
Fast forward to 2015, and we're now at a point where many in the industry are calling for an 'Assisted Performance' Oscars category to recognise the work done by actors and VFX artists.

One day after reporting that Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) is in talks to take the female lead in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, her co-star Brenton Thwaites has offered up new details about the script. The actor signed on in November to play a young British soldier who teams up with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), but not much more was known about the plot at that time. Now, Brenton Thwaites reveals that he's heading to Australia next month for pre-production, while teasing new details about the ploy.
"I don't know much about the story, they're quite tight about that stuff. I'm heading back to Australia to begin [pre-production] in a month. It's about a young man who wants to reconnect with his father, Davy Jones. There's a curse that prevents him from doing that. I think it's about how he goes around that and tries »
