Sex & Nudity

  • 8.5/10
    • A few mild references to sex (e.g. sounds deemed to be 'sexual') can be seen/heard during some missions
    • The game contains strip clubs which the player can enter at free will. The player also has the ability to pay in-game money (gained throughout the game) to receive a private, very sexual, 'dance'. No nudity.
    • Many objects and places scattered throughout the map also refer to sex (E.g. A sex shop with 'toys', and, 'adult films'). The main character can also wear an S&M suit and wield a dildo as a weapon.
    • The player, like in most GTA games, can have sex with prostitutes scattered throughout the city during the night, and, if they chose to do so, can kill them to get their money back. Not incredibly graphic.
  • Note: old files from the PC version allowed modders (people who add additional content to games, often using sources of programming and design provided by the developers themselves) to re-create a cut mini-game in which the main character, CJ, has sex with his girlfriend in many graphic ways, though without nudity. Since the controversy and re-rating of the PC version to Adults Only (it's rated M on PC now), Rockstar has cut the old files from the game, though modding the game to add said mini-game may still work for some.

Violence & Gore

  • 7/10
    • The player can kill just about anyone they feel like. Killing will result in spurts of blood, and, quite rarely, an exploding head. Gore is VERY rare. The player can also kill Police officers in the same ways, but doing so will cause their wanted rating to increase as a punishment.
    • Some cutscenes involve some form of violence, the levels of violence tend to vary.

Profanity

  • 9.5/10
    • ALLOT of swearing (as to be expected from a Grand Theft Auto game), from VARIOUS F-Bombs to use of the 'N word' (no, not the awful one). A few other curses are used frequently, as well (e.g. s**t).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • 10/10
  • For the most part, drug use in this game is portrayed in a negative light. The main character, CJ and his brother stay off of drugs, and the characters that do drugs are portrayed as corrupt and evil. That said however, drug use is still extremely common throughout the game.
  • Characters will smoke various types of drugs using everything from homemade cigarettes to large bongs.
  • Characters are frequently seen drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes, cigars and joints.
  • The character named Ryder is frequently seen smoking marijuana.
  • One mission in particular revolves around burning marijuana plants in a field.
  • At one point in the story, many of the main character's friends become hooked on heroin and fall slave to their drug dealers.
  • There are at least two missions where the player will have to enter a large-scale drug production warehouse.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • 3/10
    • The ability to kill various citizens and police officers may disturb some people.
  • FIRST RELEASE_ BBFC - (18): strong language, sex references, bloody violence.
  • HOT COFFEE RELEASE_ BBFC - (18): very strong sexual images, strong language, sex references, bloody violence.
