Very entertaining.
HumanoidOfFlesh9 November 2004
I saw this horror/short during Horror Fiesta Film Festival in Warsaw. It actually won the award for the Best Short Horror Film there.A team of bank robbers come to the small town for an easy bank robbery, only to find the place deserted except for the young boy. When a supernatural being starts killing the members of the team, they must find the little boy's secret.Vastly entertaining little horror flick with some suspense and nice creature effects. It features some Tarantinoesque dialogue plus a little bit of gore. The film is well-made and acted and the atmosphere of isolation is nicely captured. So if you're in the mood for exciting little horror/short give "Black Gulch" a look.My rating:8 out of 10.

Great Short Film

I got to watch this this past weekend and really surprised.

After seeing several short films in film festivals in NYC, Boston, Provincetown and Philly you learn to expect low budgets and less storyline.

Happily Black Gulch is not that!

It really was a good little film!

Good production values and of course with Chris Bradley back in the saddle - after a few years MIA - made it all the more worthwhile.

This should be in more competitions catering to short films.

Def think Stephen King "Desperation" but with only 15 minutes and you want to see so much more.

Def worth checking out

Check out the directors offer to send you a copy - you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Mike!

While not 100% new and having some very harsh language, this short is a winner

Warning: Spoilers
The film begins with a team of robbers entering a bank. However, oddly, everyone is gone and when they search the small town, they can't find the people--only a badly mauled man who is dying. Then, one by one, they are killed by a creature that looks like a combination of the Grim Reaper and Alien! How this is all resolved is pretty savage but entertaining.

This short film is very reminiscent of the great "Twilight Zone" episode which starred Billy Mumy as the evil child with amazing mental powers--powers that made everyone do his bidding OR ELSE! Because of this, what occurs in the short didn't come as any surprise to me. However, because it was handled so well and had a rather gritty and satisfying ending, I found myself wanting to see more from the team that made BLACK GULCH--it is a dandy short film.

Also, parents may want to keep kids away from this one--it's very violent and has a lot of very harsh language and isn't suitable for younger audiences.

My feelings on Black Gulch
dragonslair_080606 December 2006
I recently was shown a copy of "Black Gulch" All I have to say is "WOW"! This would make a damn good feature length film. The plot, production values and most definitely the acting were all top notch. The lead, Christopher Bradley, is a wonderful actor and Michael Strode did a great job with the writing and directing, he needs to make more films. I was told that the original plan was to make the short and then to hopefully use it to earn enough money to make a 90 minute version of it. There is plenty to make this a worthwhile project with out padding it out. I could just see this playing in the local movie theater and making the whole audience screaming. Lets see this get made!!!!
