The Art of the Steal review: steal from the best

One of the most fun heist movies ever, bursting with snappy humor and a twisty cleverness that knows that you know that you are getting conned as much as the mark onscreen. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Oh, I do love a heist movie. And this is one of the most fun heist movies ever, clearly modeled — and successfully so — on Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven in its smart, snappy humor and its twisty cleverness that knows that you know that you are getting conned as much as the mark onscreen, and that you are hoping to be fooled as much as possible, because the more you’re fooled, the more fun it is. Writer-director Jonathan Sobol pulls it off, beautifully and wittily. Maybe it’s not quite as endlessly uproarious as Ocean’s Eleven, »

The Top 9 Sam Raimi Films - Horror and Otherwise

18 February 2014 7:30 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

From his modest start in that ramshackle cabin in the woods what must seem like a lifetime ago, Sam Raimi has become one of the more versatile and beloved directors in Hollywood. With Scream Factory's Blu-ray release of Darkman today, we bring you our Top 9 Sam Raimi Films - Horror and Otherwise.

We're going to keep this list to films directed by Raimi. If we were to include the movies he's acted in, or god forbid produced, we'd be here all night. Some honorable directorial mentions include his most recent, Oz the Great and Powerful. It might not have been the epic it was billed to be, but it looked fantastic; and when you manage to haul in half a billion »

Don't Mess With Sofia Vergara & Reese Witherspoon

10 February 2014 2:15 PM, PST | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara is so funny and she's just been edging into funny movies like playing the villain in The Smurfs, and playing smaller roles in The Three StoogesNew Year's Eve and Escape from Planet Earth. But finally, she's going to do a female buddy comedy with another of our faves, Reese Witherspoon (Monsters vs Aliens). In Don't Mess with Texas, Reese will play a cop and Sofia will play a prisoner who have to go on the lam together (you know, this would be even funnier if it were Mf's Gloria who was a prisoner on the run!). In talks to direct the film is Anne Fletcher, who made her mark putting comedic duos together with The Proposal.  »
