Argentinian-made Gothic thriller, shot in English, about a young American woman (Philips) returning to her crumbling ancestral home in the wake of her twin sister's untimely death. She plans to sell the creepy joint as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it is occupied by her imperious grandma (Dunaway) who doesn't want to leave the place, and an ailing aunt. The girl decides to stay for a day or two and immediately starts to have nightmares, mainly about a crow eating her innards. And something is lurking behind the locked attic door. This is nothing you haven't seen before, and is loosely based on Lovecraft, with a nod to Poe (no credit for either of them, natch). This DTV quickie has decent enough photography and atmospheric dream sequences. Philips, of JEEPERS CREEPERS fame, is pretty but unfortunately no actress, and Dunaway is a hammy embarrassment as the scheming grandmother who harbors a Big Secret. The ending is exactly what you would expect. If you see this, see it for the fact that it is a foreign-made creeper, like SUSPIRIA or the recent DARKNESS or HIGH TENSION. So its take on American horror movies is a bit askew, to say the least.
