This Antonio Jimenez Rico film describes a good story based on a novel
by Carlos Blanco that packs an intelligent tale about deceits and lies
. A couple (Santiago Ramos and Carmen Morales ) and their son arrive in
hotel at city of Gijon . But the son suffers an accident on the edge of
sea and he's drowned . The tragedy causes an immense pain and despair
in the protagonists. Then the screenplay describes some flashbacks
retelling happenings plenty of musical shows ( Spanish Revista played
by Fedra Lorente) as well as twists plots and intrigue until a puzzling
ending , for sure.
Good acting by a very young Carmen Morales , the veteran Santiago Ramos
and remaining cast . Support actors are frankly well as Jose
Sazatornil, 'Saza' as receptionist , Maria Asquerino, Antonio Gamero ,
Francisco Merino, Emilio Laguna and Mariola Fuentes . Drama ensues in
the region of Asturias when a couple along his son arrive in hotel ,
but later he's suddenly drowned , then the story changes and emerges
several problems, tragedies and thought-provoking suspense . Highlights
movie are the cinematography by Raul Perez Cubero and production design
by Sempere . Evocative and emotive musical score by Pablo Cervantes .
This is a cool Spanish film from the 2000 finely performed ,
compellingly written and well directed . This is an acceptable film
produced by Jose Luis Garci and professionally directed by Antonio
Gimenez Rico , a director of great quality . He's an expert on dramas
as ¨Forteen stations , Jarrapellejos, Spanish soldier and Three words ¨
. His speciality turns out to be adaptations based on prestigious
novelist Miguel Delibes as ¨ Portrait of family , The vote of Mister
Cayo and The rats¨ . Hotel Danubio results to be a remake to ¨Los Peces
Rojos¨ . This modern version is starred by Santiago Ramos who plays
Arturo De Cordoba's role and the Rocio Durcal's daughter, Carmen
Morales , who takes Emma Penella's role. The end is also different in
both films, as "Los Peces Rojos" closes with policemen waiting for Hugo
at the police car, while "Hotel Danubio" goes on with a dialog between
the two policemen, Iñaqui Miramon and Jesus Valverde , chatting about
the deeds while followed by camera moving to the beach where some men
,apparently morning joggers, are seen running along the beach when
happen a surprising event. Rating : Good , 6,5 . Wellworth watching .
