while many have commented on the fact that there are depressing stories on this show, it is important to note that legislation is being enacted to enforce the felony animal abuse laws, and these offenses are no longer taken lightly.
In Dade County, Florida it is illegal for anyone to even OWN a pit bull, which is a sad commentary on the abuse, and proliferation of dog-fighting in the area.
This show is important because it educates the audience, and while focusing on the Detroit area, shows the many different conditions dogs, cats and other domestic animals are rescued. All of the MHS rescue team are to be appreciated and commended for helping these animals. One episode in particular is with MHS Shaun Hairston, as he cannot believe the way people leave their dogs outside in the snow, without food or water.
While the stories are sometimes horrific (Why would someone chain their shepherd outside in 15 degree ice and snow) it is important for people to learn about animal abuse, the preponderance of it, and what they can do to help. It is certainly true that animal abuse is an early indicator of other violence. Anything people can do to rescue an animal is of value, and this show is to be highly commended.9/10.
