Korean Internet comic goes theatrical, digital

28 July 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

SEOUL -- In a sign of the growing importance of new media in Korea's entertainment scene, production company Ahn's World Production announced Thursday that its latest project, an adaptation of popular Internet comic strip Multi-Cell Girl, will be made as a theatrical release and a 100-episode series for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting. DMB is a new platform being developed in Korea that promises high-quality pictures and CD-quality sound for cell phones and other portable devices at speeds of up to 200 km/h. E.J. Yong (also known as Lee Je-yong), the director behind the 2003 hit Untold Scandal, will be directing the movie version of Multi-Cell Girl, while up to 20 directors -- including Kim Dae-seung (Blood Rain) and Kim Dong-bin (Red Eye) -- will produce about 100 10-minute episodes to go directly to DMB. »
