Storyline

Thirty-three years ago, an alien force known as the "JAM" invaded Earth through a dimensional portal over Antarctica. Earth's forces managed to drive the JAM away to a distant planet designated as "Fairy". While the majority of Earth's population is unaware of the JAM's presence, the war continues on Fairy, where Rei Fukai is an SAF (Special Air Force) pilot assigned to pilot "Yukikaze"-an advanced reconnaissance fighter plane equipped with a near-sentient A.I. that detects the presence of the JAM within its path. the Top Gun of Anime
3 January 2006 | by (Mouse Town, USA) – See all my reviews

I am still a bit new to the world of Anime films, but as they say, "I knows what I likes" and Yukikaze is all that I enjoy in an Anime story.

It is like an Anime Top Gun, in a way - as it is about a group of jet fighter jocks. But instead of Migs here they are battling an alien enemy called the Jam on an alien planet. The main character's jet has an on board A.I. (artificial intelligence) system that aids the pilot and weapons officer (AKA - the 'backseater') execute their missions, and is a character unto itself.

The animation is excellent, the characters are interesting, and the story has unexpected twists and turns. I believe there are eight separate episodes or 'missions', but I have only seen the first two that were dubbed into English onto DVD (by Bandai). The third and fourth episodes just came out on DVD ('Yukikaze 2 - Fog of War'), and I hope to see these soon and the rest when they are released.

If you love fast planes, high tech sci-fi action Anime, then give Yukikaze a try!
