Due to US moral views, Sony Pictures digitally altered the theatrical trailer to give Jessica Alba a 'less revealing' bikini. See also Pathology (2008) and The Hangover (2009).
According to director John Stockwell on the DVD commentary, a lot of the violent scenes were edited or digitally altered to secure the desired PG-13 rating.

Most of the diving related scenes in the movie were filmed with help from Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas, which is one of the world most renowned diving companies. The company helped charter boats for the crew as well as drive the actors around to various locations off the island. Most of the underwater photography and shark scenes were filmed with the Stuart Cove's staff as well, because they have been working with those sharks around the island since the 1980's.
