Director: John Stockwell

Starring: Halle Berry, Oliver Martinez, Ralph Brown, Luke Taylor, Mark Elderkin

Running Time: 108 minutes

Certificate: 15

Sharks get a tough rap; if someone came into your home snooped about, took some photos, and teased you with a lovely bit of blood you’d be annoyed right? That being the case, why do people continue to do this and act surprised when it all goes wrong? This is just the start of many problems with Dark Tide.

Set in South Africa, married couple Kate (Berry) and Jeff (Martinez) do a bit of Shark swimming – no cages for these daredevils. Inevitably some poor expendable character is coerced into the water by Kate and gets eaten 10 minutes in. A year later Kate is a broken woman: her shark tour business is going under, and she still lives with the guilt of her friend’s death. Things begin to look up when »

Gina Carano Signs on for Female 'Expendables' Movie

25 September 2012 11:37 AM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Mma fighter Gina Carano has become the first star attached to an all-female version of The Expendables movie. The idea was originally rumored last month when Sylvester Stallone's sequel, The Expendables 2, hit theaters. Famous female butt-kickers like Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez, among others were mentioned as a wish list of potential actresses to assemble in the film. Carano made her big screen debut earlier this year in Steven Soderbergh's action flick Haywire. While the film failed to catch fire at the box office, Carano stood out with her mixed martial arts background. She has since been cast in Fast & Furious 6 as Dwayne Johnson's sidekick and the female lead in Into the Blue director John Stockwell's action thriller...

Benicio del Toro Leading ‘Jimmy Picard’; Adam Levine to ‘Save Your Life’; ‘Footloose’ Star Kenny Wormald In ‘Kid Cannabis’

15 June 2012 7:30 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

If you ask me — nobody did, but please don’t stop reading now — Benicio del Toro doesn’t get nearly enough play. Sure, the guy would be all over the place if he went and took the villain role in Star Trek 2 — but he didn’t and, therefore, isn’t. (We’ll know if that was a wise move in eleven months.) I take it as good fortune, then, when Deadline say he’ll grab the lead role in Jimmy Picard, a psychiatry-based drama from Arnaud Desplechin, director of 2008′s acclaimed drama A Christmas Tale.

He and that film’s star, Mathieu Amalric, will make a reunion on Picard, itself the story of returning WWII veteran Jimmy Picard, a Native American whose battle scars are unlike those typically encountered by doctors. A dire case gets a dose of hope at Topeka’s Winter Hospital, where “ethno-psychiatrist” Georges Devereux (Amalric »

While it doesn.t have a lot of thrills, Dark Tide does manage to capture some tension thanks to incredible underwater sequences that show the divers playing with some very large sharks. Unfortunately, the film suffers from a dragging pace and lack of chemistry between its cast. Directed by John Stockwell (who brought us the underwater thriller Into the Blue) and written by Ronnie Christensen and Amy Sorlie, the film stars Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez, Ralph Brown, Mark Elderkin, Luke Tyler, Thoko Ntshinga, and Sizwe Msutu. The film opens with .shark whisperer. Kate Mathieson (Berry) shooting a documentary with her husband Jeff (Martinez) off the coast of South Africa. Kate is one of the only shark experts in the »

Kellan Lutz and Nina Dobrev Get High For 'Kid Cannabis'

8 May 2012 7:09 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

We've got the 420 — er, the 411 — on a groovy new movie.

Kellan Lutz of the "Twilight" saga and Nina Dobrev of "The Vampire Diaries" are set to trade drinking blood for smoking (and selling) weed as they sign on for "Kid Cannabis," according to Heat Vision.

"Kid Cannabis" is based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article that chronicled the exploits of suburban Idaho teens who built a multimillion-dollar marijuana empire. The film is set to star Jonathan Daniel Brown ("Project X") as a depressed 18-year-old who assembles his friends to smuggle drugs across the Canadian border, an endeavor that makes them rich ... and puts them in a situation that's way over their heads.

News of Lutz's casting comes hot on the heels of word that he'll also be playing the title role in a new version of "Tarzan" being set up at Constantin Films. He's also set to play Emmett Cullen one »

Blu-ray Review: ‘Dark Tide’ Finds Halle Berry Shipwrecked in Sea of Clichés

1 May 2012 6:39 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Poor Halle Berry. Apparently ravishing good looks, fine acting chops and an Academy Award for Best Actress aren’t enough to earn decent roles in Hollywood. Since her triumphant turn in 2001’s “Monster’s Ball,” Berry has had only two big screen roles that managed to hint at her gifts as an actress. Yet “Things We Lost in the Fire” and “Frankie & Alice” were largely ignored by critics and audiences.

Sadly, Berry’s name has gradually become synonymous with cinematic turkeys like 2004’s “Catwoman,” for which she graciously accepted a Razzie award while delivering a hilariously self-deprecating speech. That was a terrible film, to be sure, but it wasn’t nearly as depressing as John Stockwell’s PG-13-rated would-be blockbuster, “Dark Tide. It was deservedly released on Blu-ray less than a month after its alleged and seemingly nonexistent theatrical run. Even Berry’s most devoted fans will want »
