Translated as "Heavy Metal L-Gaim", 1 November 2003
Author: Rosiel

While no official translation of this 54 episode anime TV series from 1984-85 exists, the entire series is subtitled by a group of fans called Arctic Animation. You can find it through the internet if you look hard enough.

Heavy Metal L-Gaim is a Japanese anime mech series - you know, the 80s mech series like Macross and Gundam, they're known for their outer space settings, wild hairstyles, and tons of giant robots.

In this series, the main character is Daba Mairoad, a young man who finds a giant robot named "L-Gaim." He also finds out his secret heritage and becomes embroiled in a plot to overthrow Poseidal, the Empress of the Universe. While this may sound like Star Wars, this show is actually more enjoyable than the sum of its parts. It has a good atmosphere and the end of the series provides quite a twist. Highly recommended.
