‘Circus Mirandus’ Movie in the Works at Stone Village

Stone Village Productions’ Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell have preemptively acquired film and TV rights to Cassie Beasley’s debut novel “Circus Mirandus.”

The magic-themed story follows Micah Tuttle and his friend Jenny, who set off on an adventure to find the mysterious Circus Mirandus and its greatest magician in an effort to save Micah’s dying grandfather.

Stone Village said the story should appeal to fans of “Peter Pan,” “Big Fish” and the work of Roald Dahl. The producers are meeting with writers and directors for the film adaptation.

“Circus Mirandus” has been set for publication in June through Penguin. Beasley’s second novel in the franchise is due in 2016.

Steindorff’s producing credits include “Lincoln Lawyer,” “Jane Got a Gun” and “Love in the Time of Cholera.” He exec produced “Chef,” the TV series “Las Vegas” and the miniseries “Empire Falls.”

Schepisi casts romantic drama

Lesley Mann, Anthony Lapaglia, Jacki Weaver, Melissa George, Gia Carides and Josh Lucas head the cast of Fred Schepisi.s The Olive Sisters.

A romantic drama adapted from Australian author Amanda Hampson.s 2005 novel, it.s due to start shooting mid-year in Victoria.s Mornington Peninsula.

Mann will play Adrienne Bennett, a successful PR executive whose life unravels when her business fails. She.s forced to move from her New York apartment to a small rural community in Australia, where she inherited a run-down olive grove from her Italian grandparents.

After overcoming culture shock she discovers the family she barely knew and strikes up a friendship with the ruggedly handsome Joe.

Simon Baker was announced today as playing Joe and dutifully reported on Deadline.com, but his CAA agent Peter Levine told If The Mentalist regular is not attached.
