Ah the memories...which I don't clearly remember
maXSepult10 September 2003
I actually used to watch that show all the frickin time. I loved the skits, like fart smelling kids, the Simpsons parody, and...well...I guess over the time pot has destroyed my memory, so thats about all I can remember of the show. I just remember I always found Rov Tiefenbach very funny. YTV should re-air those old shows, like "Rocco's Modern Life" and stuff like that.

I'd pay good money for this!

The level of creativity, surprising social commentary, understanding what would be funny to different kids hasn't, to my knowledge, yet been surpassed.

The younger kids were top knotch, the teens spot on up and commers and the adults all well known canadian actor-comedians. The care and feeling the children were given on set came through the camera. A viewer felt this was a safe space the let their guard down and enjoy themselves.

Production and direction were great and even the music and visuals of the intro were well tailored to grab the attention and memory of the children of the times. Heck I still get this intro in my head periodically.

The writing was some of the best children's sketch comedy post You Can't Do That on Television and for my money, slightly better. Topping that off was a mix of stop motion skits (bananas being people) and animated transitions (The Planktons on a microscope with drawn over silhouettes look like characters, Wonder Dud 'superhero')

To my memory it was the only for and by children's pure sketch show of the time with YCDTOT having a live band and hosting segment. Frankly I haven't seen children's entertainment match the format since.

I would pay good money for the full series... hell I'd pay good money for this show to make a comeback. Some of the clips on YouTube have stuck with me since '94 ... I'm 42 and still get random skits from this show in my head!

This Show is... probably why I have funny...maybe...
Art_tastic4 April 2009
I remember watching this show at night before I had to go to bed. This was incredibly funny. I love the sketches with BAD Amanda, the girl who is always sent to her room until she says she's sorry. I remember seeing several of the cast on Goosebumps and squealing like a fan girl thus missing whatever diologue came next.

I also like the Hall Monitor skit with the mafia, and My Stupid Parents. That was great.

I just wish I could find the series online or in stores. That would be a great reminder of my childhood. Where did TV go after I turned 15? This is also why I love Robot Chicken. :D jD001

Squawk Box: Hit for all ages!
xfireworksx3 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This show was definitely one of my favourites in childhood. The sketches were totally brilliant and the kids were hilarious. Some of the weirdest sketches included two "high society" types smelling each others' farts like it was a wine tasting, and classics about sibling rivalry where the younger brother was never good enough, not even with his cure for cancer. Another Canadian-themed favourite shows kids playing street hockey, only to have the goalie get them to move out of the way for avalanches, stampedes, the undead and more. It's really a shame that this show isn't available on DVD - information about it is sparse online too because of the prolific "Squawk Box" money market show. If you get a chance to watch it, pay good attention and get some laughs for me!

My spine is... wet.

Oh man, this show was for lack of a better word, amazing. I remember laughing my butt off at every skit. I loved the kids who played hockey in the street and the goalie would yell out something like "EVIL DEAD" or "MELTDOWN" followed by some hilarious sound effects and then "GAME ON!" I was only a kid then but now that I think about it I think I can still appreciate the humor today, they should put this show back on the air. 10/10!!!

Totally, completely under-rated show.

Squawk Box ran on YTV in the mid 90's, airing for one season before leaving rather quietly. Starring most notably, Dov Teifenbach (Cheaters, Delicate Art of Parking), the cast was multi-sexed and multi-aged, ranging from about 12-40ish. The show was essentially a skit show aimed at kids, though the humour (while not necessarily highbrow by any means, take for instance the Les Connoisseurs segments) was in no way childish. Spoofs on Cop Shows, The Godfather, 50's sitcoms, International Politics, Sports trades, relationships were all tackled with gusto. There are simply too many great moments of this show to mention.

This show rests in my memory and my heart as my favourite show of all time. Sadly remains largely unknown other than as a cult-favourite of a few...myself included. This show, more than anything else, has influeced my sense of humour to what it is now.

I thought I had dreamt up this show
Pigging11 October 2003
This is the only place on the entire internet that even mentions that this show existed. I think I remember loving this show as a kid, though I really don't remember much about it ten years later. My favorite sketch would have to be the one where two kids were trying to come up with the grossest thing that the other could possibly do. "Okay, a town full of people pick their noses and ears for a whole year and make a huge ball right in the center of town. No questions asked, you dive in face first and take a huge bite out of it."

Classy, I know.

I always thought I dreamed this show...

For years, this show wasn't even on IMDb here, even after I told them about the show, and who was on it, and what it was about. I guess someone with a bit more clout got ahold of some of the web-dorks at IMDb, because here it is! Proof I didn't dream it! I loved this show (yes, especially the street hockey interludes. "GLACIER!" "VIKINGS!" "EVIL DEAD!" as my personal favorite.) The dad on the motorized armchair bombing around, Dov Tiefenbach's curiously good acting skills, and the utterly random skits that played to my very warped sense of humor.

This show needs to be DVD'd. Now.

Wonder Dud
kertef_corobo19 February 2006
OMG That show just popped into my head when my buddy mentioned Tarzan Dan, I'm so surprised I was able to find anything on the web about it, luckily good ol' IMDb.com came to the rescue once again .

I used to love squawk box, I remember the skits about the Cells Family which was always completely ridiculous but always funny, as well as OF COURSE the street hockey skits which always included yelling some crazy bit that had nothing to do with the game to preempt the moving of the nets of the road for a car. I wish I could remember more of the show, but no matter how hard I try those are the only points of it I can remember :( .

I am so excited I went downstairs and I STILL have a few episodes of Wonder Dud recorded onto a VHS tape which I am going to have to watch very soon when I find my VHS player (lol thats a big IF!).

Those were great years for youth television, so much better than the crap you see on YTV these days. What ever happened to shows like Rocko's Modern Life, Samurai Pizza Cats, Student Bodies, and even Duckman, shows that always had some meaning to them not to mention good comic relief.

Oh man, I was only 5!
marymary2329 June 2004
When I was 5 this show came on, and I can barely remember any of it! I do however remember the fart smellers, and that hockey thing... I also remember a lot of things being purple.. :S ... Anyways, I totally agree with maXSepult, I think YTV should replay all of the old shows like Little Vampire or REALLY old reruns of Hitlist with Tarzan Dan! haha That would be soo awesome! It is amazing how this is the only site that even mentions the show, and there's only so much information about it... I can only remember 2 people on that show and everyone and everything is just a blur..

This was a good skit show
Mr Klass5 September 2003
Squawk Box was a skit show i think and some of it was pretty funny i remember. They had some interesting skits like a Sailor swearing while jumping rope and what a cell's life is like under a microscope. I'm trying to remembore more but i think i only watched a few episodes at the time. Well it was a good show that was on YTV.
