One of Serbian best comedies ever
alazic14 January 2006
Utterly funny, and utterly true. Gallery of characters placed in the Balkans in the 19th century, but which could be found in these days, in struggle to win freedom from Turkish occupation. Fight for power, greed, unfulfilled yearnings, love and hate, are just a small amount of what you could see in this hilarious comedy. But, in the end, you could ask yourselves: Are all those people, representing last barrier, really could save Europe from the menace coming from the East? Well, maybe they could, and maybe they couldn't. It's up to you to decide, after seeing this comedy. Hilarious and real-life driven, this is first real sitcom made in Eastern Europe. Warm recommendation.

Low budget, excellent comedy!

This show is one of a kind. I watched Black Adder and...What can I say, Crni Gruja is much better for me. But it is probably because I am Serbian. If you watch Crni Gruja, and you don't have a clue about Serbian history or mentality, you will find it quite average. It shows Serbia under Turks at the end of 18th and beginning of 19th century. Crni Gruja is a merchant who works both with Serbians and Turks, and because of that he often gets into trouble. Moreover, his uncle is Karadjordje (Black George),ruler of Serbia, but that fact doesn't help him at all because Karadjordje is very cruel to him. Like Black Adder he has two stupid servants-Cheda and Bole which are sometimes more hilarious than Crni Gruja. I recommend you all to watch it, it's one of the best Serbian shows ever!. Pozdrav iz Srbije!

An Exquisite Piece of Comedy

This work of art is definitely a must watch for all demographics. Apparently there is a British ripoff of this masterpiece called "Black Adder". The fact that a big budget western production would dare copy the winning formula just goes to show the massive impact that 'Crni Gruja' had on the European popular culture. An ensemble cast really brings the characters and the narrative up to the 21st century standards.
