Margreth Olin, is a female Norwegian director and film-maker. She is one of few that have become successful and well-known for her work. She is the only one I can name at the top of my head as of now. She started making short films (one of them being about the seven sins of death), then two documentaries. One I am about to review, and an another called: Raw Youth - Ungdommens Råskap. Then she moved into feature length territory with a film called: The Angel - Engelen. Her debut. I have yet to see that one. Based on the trailer, it seemed like a depressing film-- But I will check it out anyways.
There is ages since I saw this 20 min + documentary about her life. She was in her youth plagued with what most girls, and even boys (they hide it well) are nowadays too-- She felt she was thicker than she where, and to compensate that, she sucked her stomach in; To seem thinner than she was. She was not fat, but she felt like that. If I remember correct, she was at a Hospital for doing this, over a period of time. If I am mistaken, I will correct this instantaneous. Her body, is used as a metaphor for her lovers, her life and the way she acts. The documentary, of experimental joy is filled with symbolism and Olin hides more than she show... My guess indeed. For what I can remember, there was this animated heart and segments about her lovers. Then we find out that she is pleased with the one she have. My guess, is that she tries to bring the message about: It's not how you look, but it's how you feel that is the most important thing.
Indeed, it's a fine little gem of a documentary that can be enjoyed over and over again, to find new information after each viewing... as how I look at it now. I think I will end this review, to say: I recommend it, due to the fact that; It brings out emotions within you, and it helps you in a way to feel comfortable with yourself, and the life you lead.
The End.
