Sky One nabs 'Stargate Atlantis'

LONDON -- British Sky Broadcasting's Sky One has picked up free, pay and cable rights to the Stargate SG-1 spinoff Stargate Atlantis and the apocalyptic drama Revelations in a new deal with MGM International Television, the companies said Thursday. The digital entertainment channel has also renewed second-season rights to the James Caan starrer Las Vegas. The deals were brokered by Sky One head of acquisitions, drama and comedy David Smyth and MGM International Television Europe senior vp Carolyn Stalins. »

'Days' wins for ABC; 'Atlantis' a Sci Fi record

ABC's summer drama series The Days got off to an OK start in its premiere Sunday, helping the network take the night in the adults 18-49 demographic. Meanwhile, Sci Fi Channel saw its newest drama series, Stargate: Atlantis, a spinoff of Stargate SG-1, blast off on Friday with record ratings for a series on the cabler. On Sunday, ABC's The Days brought in an average of 6.8 million viewers and a 3.1 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 at 10 p.m., according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. ABC gave the drama about the trials and tribulations of a large extended family a strong sendoff with an original episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (9.8 million, 4.5/12) at 9 p.m. Days fell off significantly from its lead-in but still performed respectably in the demo. »

WBTV programs Collins, Cotton

Clancy Collins and Jeanne Cotton have joined the current programs department at Warner Bros. Television. The two report to Melinda Hage, senior vp current programs at WBTV. Collins, who joins WBTV as vp current programs, comes to the industry's leading supplier of primetime series after serving as senior vp creative affairs at MGM Worldwide Television, where she helped develop the Showtime drama series Dead Like Me and Sci Fi Channel's Stargate: Atlantis. Before MGM, Collins also worked in development at Paramount Domestic TV. At WBTV, she'll supervise day-to-day matters for CBS' Without a Trace and Cold Case and the upcoming ABC midseason drama Eyes. Cotton moves into the post of director current programs after working in WBTV's research department for the past 41?2 years as a vp. As part of the reorganization of the department, Stephanie Groves has been promoted from manager to director, while Rebecca Franko has been upped from assistant in WBTV's research department to manager current programs. »
