  • Revealing mistakes: Dr. Loomis' revolver obviously has empty chambers

  • Continuity: When Ken Foree climbs out of his truck the wash attendant lifts the hood then goes for a hose. When the camera switches to where Ken's character is walking, you can see in the background the attendant lifts the hood and goes for the hose again.

  • Continuity: When Laurie is walking to school and stops at the Myes' house she has no backpack, but in the following scene she is carrying one.

  • Continuity: When Laurie is trapped in the Myers' house her hair goes from curly to straight in each shot.

  • Continuity: When Michael and Big Joe Grizzly fight in the bathroom stall, Michael slams him into the stall wall which collapses into the other stall. In the next scene, before Myers takes the overalls, you can see that the stall wall is back up and only slightly dented.

  • Revealing mistakes: During the winter visit to the jail by Dr Loomis; you can see a deciduous tree in the upper left that has leaves that are as green as they are in the summer, yet there is six inches of snow on the ground.

  • Continuity: When Dr. Loomis is walking through the graveyard, the collar on his coat collar goes from up to down when cutting from him to the gravekeeper and back.

  • Continuity: Laurie is dropping off the envelope for her father and you see here pretend that someone is in there taking the envelope from her and then you see her drop it through the mail slot. She then turns to talk to the little boy but when she turns back to the house you see her drop the envelope through the mail slot again.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the ten-year-old Michael Myers goes to get the knife from the drawer to kill his sister, as he removes it the knife bends slightly, revealing that it to be a fake.

  • Plot holes: No asylum where a character is imprisoned as criminally insane would give inmates metal forks. They would be replaced by plastic cutlery, for exactly the reasons that they end up being used here - fear of being used as weapons to attack staff or other inmates

  • Continuity: In the scene of Michael's Sister walking home, when the camera passes the first tree, the bark changes as the camera is turned off and then back on switching to Michael.

  • Continuity: During their struggle when Michael kills Laurie's adoptive mother (Dee Wallace), the phone gets knocked off the hook. Yet when the sheriff calls the house later to inform them of the danger, he gets a ring and an answering machine.

  • Revealing mistakes: Just after the rape scene, Michael Myers is attacked in the back by a baton by one of the hospital workers - it leaves a very noticeable long baton-shaped dent in his back, making it very obvious that he's wearing a badly padded out bodysuit.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The sheriff calls the dead animal left on the grave a coyote, but it is in fact a type of fox.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Michael Myers stabs a boy and he is attached to the wall because of the knife, the knife is sticking too far out for it to go through his body and into the wall.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The movie does not begin in in 1963 then move on 17 years to Halloween 1980, as some viewers think, therefore any perceived anachronisms can be discounted.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene at the sanitarium where Dr. Loomis is recording his session with 10 year old Michael Myers, the microphone is an Oktava MK104. A Russian brand of microphone that was not available in the United states until the late 90s. The particular model however, was not introduced until 2006.

  • Miscellaneous: When young Michael Myers is getting arrested and is sitting in the police car, it is clearly visible that the 2 ''police officers'' near the police car are fake, e.g. as still as statues.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Michael attacks Dr. Loomis, we clearly see blood coming down Loomis' face, but when Michael drags him into the house afterwards, we get several views of Dr. Loomis' face, and it has no blood on it.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: After Laurie and Michael fall out of the window, she picks up the revolver and as she pulls the trigger it clicks on three empty chambers. This would not be the case if Dr. Loomis had already fired the gun. Laurie would have not hit on the three empty chambers but on the three loaded chambers.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Michael first dons the gray mask before killing his sister he strokes the mask with a fresh blood stained hand, yet there is no blood on the mask.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Towards the end of the film as Dr. Loomis pleads with Michael to release Laurie, you can see a blurred image of police officers with their guns raised behind Dr. Loomis. The cops only show up in the work-print version in the original ending that features the police force gunning Myers down. They were not edited out completely once the ending was changed before the film was released.
