Recall Sergio's post in March, alerting you to a radio interview in which actress Regina King, the voice of both Huey and Riley Freeman on Aaron McGruder's popular The Boondocks TV series, said that there was a possiblity the show might be returning to television for another season. Here's what Ms King said back then: "I talked to Aaron and it looks like they're working things out. I'm trying to be positive. But you know you say one thing and the next thing you know it just fell apart. But it looks strong like we're coming back." She also hinted at a possible Boondocks feature film. Of course, »

Of course, none of this was confirmed by Adult Swim, and McGruder has been rather quiet. That is until today... A little bit ago, the above image was posted on Adult Swim's website for the series. Movie Review Round-Up: Red Tails

24 January 2012 7:38 PM, PST | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

One would think that a movie with the driving force of George Lucas, a script co-written by “The Boondocks” creator Aaron McGruder, a director like Anthony Hemingway and starring the likes of Terrence Howard and David Oyelowo would be good. Really good. Sadly, the critics, aren’t seeing a lot of good about the film aside from being a well-meaning film. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently has a low 33% from the critics, whereas the audience has given it a 73%. The general critical consensus is, according to Rotten Tomatoes, “Despite a worth fact-based story and obvious good intentions, ‘Red Tails’ suffers from one-dimensional characters, corny dialogue, and heaps of »

Red Tails

Directed by Anthony Hemingway

Screenplay by John Ridley

2012, USA

George Lucas tried for more than twenty years to get a movie made about the Tuskegee Airmen, the all-black fighter pilot unit that served during the Second World War. As with most passion projects, the biggest victory (getting the story made at all) also caused the biggest problem (the pressure to get it made hampered it from being made well). Give director Anthony Hemingway (with rumored assistance from Lucas himself) credit for creating arresting action sequences. So many of today’s computer-generated action films are said to look like cartoons or video games because they have no real sense of gravity or physics. However Red Tails strives »

Aaron McGruder, 'Boondocks' Creator, on Writing 'Red Tails' and Working With George Lucas After Making Fun of Him

20 January 2012 9:30 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

George Lucas' "Red Tails," his action adventure about the Tuskegee Airmen, opens this weekend after twenty years in development. Featuring a cast and crew of black talent, one of the names on the project that has drawn the most eyebrows is co-writer Aaron McGruder, creator of the popular cartoon "The Boondocks." Throughout the print and television installments of "The Boondocks," McGruder courted acclaim and controversy equally. One of his favorite targets was none other than George Lucas and the "Star Wars" franchise, a property he repeatedly took to task for becoming soullessly corporate and racially insensitive. In spite of his critiques, McGruder grew up as a die-hard fan of the film series, so he jumped at the chance to work on a »
