Lars Kristian Gulbrandsen has made himself, his life and everything he is surrounded by into a living artwork. His abstract paintings are bought by some of the world's biggest galleries, but the local house wives and the bold fishermen see Lars Kristian as a nutcase, and view his paintings as meaningless dabs of colour and his house a chaotic garbage dump. I was lucky to see this film in the cinema. Even though it got good reviews by the norwegian press, it was only seen by around 10 000 people. But this is great cinema done with love and passion. The director takes us through a visual journey, and through that voyage we can feel the emotions of the main character, rather than just observe it. Steffan Strandberg is a close friend of Even Benestad who made "All About My Father" And it's clear that these guys have inspired each other when it comes to story telling. But one shouldn't compare the two films. 7 Heaven is something truly magic, an avant-garde documentary which deserves more attention...
