Abraham Lincoln on the rampage in horror flick President's Day

America's 16th president Abraham Lincoln goes on the rampage in the independent horror film President's Day.

The film, which had an exclusive screening in Morgantown, West Virginia, last Friday, is described as "a gruesome horror-comedy that's inspired by a healthy mix of presidential politics and campy 80s slasher films, where a high school election turns deadly after a homicidal maniac dressed as Abraham Lincoln starts murdering the candidates."

The filmmakers say the result is an amalgam of Election and Sleepaway Camp Part 2. There is also social satire as all the characters have names that echo those of the last Us presidential election.

Featuring performances by George Stover (John Water's Desperate Living and Polyester), Ruby Larocca (Flesh for the Beast, Lord of the G-Strings), and Shawn C. Phillips (star of YouTube's The Don and Murph Show), President's Day made its debut at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore in February.

Fever Dreams’ Late Fee casting call; new Damnation Pics

  • Fangoria
The folks over at Fever Dreams just dropped us a line that they’re having an open casting call for their latest venture, Late Fee. They’re seeking bodies for the wraparound scenes linking two previously completed shorts, The Pick-up and Damnation, and sent a few exclusive new pics from the latter as well (see them below).

The Late Fee concerns a couple who decide to check out their local video store on Halloween, with disastrous results. The Pick Up (which we last reported on here) and Damnation are short-form follow-ups to Fever Dreams’ previous features Flesh For The Beast and Shadow: Dead Riot respectively, both written and directed by John Carchietta and Carl Morano. The movie will receive limited theatrical release as well as DVD distribution in October. Extras are needed for Late Fee’s All Hallows’ party scene, so this is a chance to dress up in your

Scream queens shriek through Horrotica

  • Fangoria
Fango just got word of a new feature called Horrotica (no relation to our own upcoming Fangorotica) that starts principal photography this week in the New York/New Jersey era. Produced by Laughing Duck Media, it’s a horror/comedy directed by Marc Leland and starring a bevy of indie fright-flick starlets and stalwarts, headed by Tiffany Shepis (pictured).

Shepis plays B-movie actress Gina Sklar, whose attempts to track down stolen footage from her latest flick with the help of her number-one fan (Tim Mandala) lead her into some scary situations. The cast also includes J. Edmund Ford (as a producer named Lonzo), Flesh For The Beast’s Ruby Larocca, Penny Dreadful’s Tina Krause, busy newcomer Nicola Fiore, Carl “Doc” Burrows and The Blood Shed’s Alan Rowe Kelly. Frequent Kelly collaborator Tom Burns is doing the music, while Blood Night: The Legend Of Mary Hatchet’s Jeremy Selenfriend handles the makeup FX.

First photos from Flesh For The Beast follow-up short The Pick Up

Fango got ahold of a few behind-the-scenes FX pics for The Pick Up, Fever Dreams’ half-hour follow-up to its debut feature Flesh For The Beast. You can give ’em a look below the cut.

Written, produced and directed by John Carchietta and Carl Morano, The Pick Up (which Morano first discussed with us here) serves as a bridge between the original Flesh and its feature sequel, which is currently in development with Wicked Lake’s Adam Rockoff scripting. The short features all-new girls, though actor Sergio Jones is back, and Brian Spears (second photo) and Pete Gerner (third photo) returned to create the impressive FX. Look for more on Flesh For The Beast 2 right here as it comes closer to fruition; The Pick Up has a website (just a homepage with poster art right now) here.

Fever Dreams producer talks Devil’S Hostage, Flesh sequel

At the New York City Comic-Con this past weekend, Fango ran into Fever Drems producer Carl Morano, who gave us some details about a couple of upcoming projects. One is a new possession picture called The Devil’S Hostage, and the other is a follow-up to the company’s debut title Flesh For The Beast.

“The Devil’S Hostage is about two exorcists and two different case studies, two claims of possession that they encounter and deal with,” Morano tells us. “We plan to shoot it in the New York area, probably around the middle of this year. John Carchietta and myself are finishing the script, and we’ll announce the crew and the cast soon.” You can see a poster and a teaser for Hostage at its official website here; use the password “anton” to enter.

“But before we do that, right now we’re prepping a short film

Blu-Ray May See a Horrific Winter

With Blu-Ray being the clear-cut winner in a format war with HD DVD, Hollywood was hoping for sales of the new technology to surpass its standard definition predecessor this holiday season.  However, it may not be a holly-jolly X-Mass for the execs as a poor economy could mean lower Blu-Ray sales.

Even though the cost of Blu-Ray technology has gone down in recent months, experts say that it may not have gone down far enough to aid consumers in their upgrade.  This could mean that some of the titles on the Fangoria Chopping List such as Flesh For The Beast, Shadow: Dead Riot, and Day Of The Dead, all slated for Blu-ray release this December, may see higher sales on standard DVD format than on their Blu-Ray superior.
