World Series is Fox's ratings power hitter Sunday

21 October 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Baseball was once again the hottest thing going in primetime on Sunday as the New York Yankees tied it up in their World Series battle with the Florida Marlins with a 6-1 victory in Game 2 of the World Series. Despite the baseball competition, NBC still pulled in solid numbers with 9 p.m. drama Law & Order: Criminal Intent, as did ABC at 10 p.m. with The Practice. CBS also did respectable adults 18-49 demo business from 9-11 p.m. with its campy Jackie Collins telepic Hollywood Wives: The New Generation. Reliable estimates for Fox's live game coverage won't be available until Tuesday, but preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research indicate that the game drew at minimum an average of about 17 million-18 million viewers and built throughout the night. In Nielsen's 55 overnight metered markets, the Yankees-Marlins contest averaged 15.0 household rating/22 share. »

Pop vixen Christina Aguilera is poised to play a scheming mistress in an American TV movie - marking her first venture into acting. The Beautiful singer is set to join acting stalwarts Robin Givens, Farrah Fawcett and Melissa Gilbert in the small screen adaptation of Jackie Collins' raunchy novel Hollywood Wives: The New Generation. And the pop star - who's often been criticized for her saucy image - has reportedly refused to portray a "sweet" character in the film for American network CBS, preferring instead to be cast as a villain. A movie source says, "It's true Christina expressed an interest and we helped film a short screen test. She was sensational but instructed us that she did not want to play anyone sweet." »

Tyson finds 'Glory' at FSN

11 July 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NEW YORK -- Fox Sports Net will give Beyond the Glory, its three-year-old Biography-style series, its biggest push yet in the next week as it promotes a two-hour episode on Mike Tyson in which the former heavyweight champion gave producers hours of access to him. The show will also be notable for interviews with Tyson's ex-wife, the actress Robin Givens, who has said little during the past 15 years about her explosive and short marriage to Tyson. Givens, who has recently been cast in the CBS telefilm Hollywood Wives: The New Generation, explains her complex love for Tyson and describes how he used to beat her and cheat on her. In the show, Tyson frankly discusses his brutal nature and dismal upbringing that helped shape not only his fury and tenacity in the ring, but a self-loathing nature in which he says "I hate Mike Tyson. ... I mostly wish the worst for Mike Tyson." »
