'Super Laff-In' was probably the absolute worst photocopy show ever produced by ABS-CBN. This one was supposed to go against gag show luminary 'Bubble Gang'.
They say imitation is a form of flattery, but 'Super Laff-In' is just a giant insult to the show it shamelessly copied. Again, 'Laff-In' is headlined by the overacting master Vhong Navarro and a whole slew of teen heartthrobs trying their hardest to crack a joke. During this time, champion sitcoms in ABS-CBN such as 'Home Along da Riles' and 'Palibhasa Lalaki' ruled the waves, and the networks thought audiences would swallow 'Laff-In' like they did their other top-raters, but in this fact they were gravely mistaken.
'Super Laff-In' suffered greatly in ratings against 'Bubble Gang' prompting the network to pull the plug only after a brief run. The reason? the jokes were painfully unfunny.
'Super Laff-In' ushered in the beginning of the downfall of ABS-CBN's prime time run. In the next couple of seasons, they would come up with other unfunny sitcoms like 'Arriba Arriba', 'Kaya ni Mister, Kaya ni Misis', and mostly recently, 'Bora' which cemented their impression as being the home of the corny sitcoms.
'Super Laff-In', again, is a lesson in prime time programming ignored by the writers and producers of ABS-CBN.
