The Great British Bake Off 2017, episode five – as it happened

26 September 2017 1:18 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

It’s pudding week! The proof of the pudding is in the eating, but also in the being sent home. Who triumphed?

9.18pm BST

Wowzer. That episode was quite tough watching at times. My loyalties feel as slippery as an unbaked steam pudding. In the end, a fair result: Sophie’s military precision earns her a trip up ze Treifel Tower, while James…I don’t think they’re ready for his jelly.

Stephen’s been slipping, hasn’t he. Would we now rank Sophie higher? She’s consistent, a quality sine qua non in bake off champions.

9.13pm BST

I love those Portugese pasteis de nata. Next episode, pastry week, looks buff. And Liam will still be with us! I hope you will too.

9.12pm BST

Hurrah!

But we lose...James, as suspected. Julia sobbing. ‘My time has come’ says James, like something out of A Tale of Two Cities. »

Idris Elba Partners With A Formerly Illiterate Mom To Tackle Adult Illiteracy

11 September 2017 6:30 AM, PDT | Look to the Stars | See recent Look to the Stars news »

To mark International Literacy Day, the classic children’s character ‘Chicken Little’ is going on a new adventure, with a twist – his story has been re-written by a mother who has spent the last year learning to read and write.

Featuring a foreword from actor and activist, Idris Elba, the new book is written by Wanda Steward from Philadelphia, Pa, in partnership with Project Literacy, a global campaign founded by learning company Pearson and made up of over 100 organisations dedicated to ending illiteracy by 2030.

“The Little Chicken Named Pong-Pong” is Wanda’s own original interpretation of the classic fable “Chicken Little”. Illiterate in her early motherhood, Wanda struggled to read bedtime stories to her children when they were young; using her imagination, she made up her own tales to match the illustrations and created a recurring character called “Pong-Pong the Brave”.

‘Descendants 2’: How This Long-Running Female Writing Team Came Up With One of Disney’s Most Important Franchises

21 July 2017 3:37 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

When Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon first teamed up 32 years ago, the door had just started to crack open for female film writers.

“We came at the right time, it was right when women writers were coming into vogue,” McGibbon said. “It was the time of ‘Thelma and Louise’ and there was two of us — a blonde and a brunette and it all fell into place.”

Parriott and McGibbon’s latest project, “Descendants 2,” premieres Friday night on Disney Channel, as well as ABC, Freeform, Disney Xd and Lifetime. It’s now a key franchise for Disney, and the latest career twist for Parriott and McGibbon, who now boast one of the longest-running writing partnerships in all of Hollywood.

Scandal Recap: Explosions in the Sky

4 May 2017 7:22 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Domestic terrorism is familiar territory for Scandal, but Thursday’s episode — which claimed the lives of more than 100 Americans via calculated drone strikes — was so over-the-top, I fully expected Vin Diesel to pop out and save the day.

OpinionScandal Needs to End With Season 7

In lieu of Diesel, however, it was up to Olivia & Co. to stop Peus from blowing up half of the country. And while they eventually stumbled into victory, they took a treacherous road to get there, one that included a whole lot of insanity and betrayal.

Disney has no plans for a live-action Frozen remake

20 March 2017 4:40 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Disney scored another box office success this past weekend with Beauty and the Beast, the latest live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated back catalogue, which pulled in a whopping $350 million opening weekend around the globe.

Beauty and the Beast followed in the footsteps of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book, and over the next few years we’ll see a host of releases, including The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Cruella and Tink; however, if you were hoping to see Frozen added to the list, we have some disappointing news for you.

Asked by Vulture about the possibility of Elsa, Anna and company getting the live-action treatment, Sean Bailey, president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios said that there’s an unofficial boundary line around the year 2000, and that “We’re not looking at anything very recent, [anything] that still »
