Coach Baldwin calling plays for MGM's 'Street'

Alec Baldwin has signed on to topline MGM's long-gestating basketball flick Street. Baldwin will play a down-on-his-luck coach brought in to revive an NBA team. The film is being produced by Alex Gartner and Arthur Sarkissian. The writers on the project are Chris Parker and Matt O'Neil. Michael Shapiro recently signed on to direct the project, which is described as an underdog story about street basketball players in the NBA. The executives on the project are Eric Paquette, Pete Chiarelli and Toby Jaffe. Baldwin also has signed on to play Boss in Columbia Pictures' Fun With Dick and Jane. The remake of the 1977 classic stars Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni. Dean Parisot directs. Baldwin is repped by CAA. »

Angie Harmon is joining Tea Leoni and Jim Carrey in Columbia Pictures' Fun With Dick and Jane. Harmon is taking the role of Veronica in the remake of the 1977 comedy. Dean Parisot directs. Brian Grazer is producing. George Segal and Jane Fonda starred in the original feature about an upwardly mobile couple who turn to bank robbery to get out of bankruptcy. Screenplay writers Judd Apatow and Nicolas Stoller have modernized the film to revolve around a spokesperson for a large conglomerate. Harmon's credits include The Deal and Agent Cody Banks as well as the TV series Law & Order and Baywatch Nights. She is repped by UTA. »

Solomon birthing 'Giant' for Par

Writer Ed Solomon is breathing a new lease on life into Paramount's long-gestating Roald Dahl adaptation The Big Friendly Giant. Solomon (Men in Black, Charlie's Angels), who most recently penned The In-Laws, has come on board to rewrite the adaptation of the popular book by the British author who created such classics as James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is in production at Warner Bros. Pictures. The Kennedy/Marshall Co. and Michael Siegel are serving as producers on Giant. Solomon most recently worked on a rewrite of Fun With Dick and Jane. He is repped by WMA. »

Leoni sees 'Jane' for Columbia Pics

Tea Leoni is going to be having some Fun With Dick and Jane. The actress is in negotiations to take the place of Cameron Diaz, who had originally been cast in the Columbia Pictures project but is now stepping aside because of a scheduling conflict arising from a change of dates. Leoni will play the role of Jane in the remake of the 1977 comedy, which has been updated to revolve around a spokesman for a big company who finds himself jobless and an outcast following some dodgy extracurricular activities. In the original film, Jane Fonda and George Segal played an upper-middle-class couple that turned to pulling heists to pay their bills. Brian Grazer is producing for Imagine Entertainment. Leoni recently completed Spanglish for Columbia and director James L. Brooks. Her credits include House of D, in which she co-starred with husband David Duchovny. Leoni is repped by UTA, Mosaic Media and attorney Barry Hirsch. »
