MPAA Rated PG-13 for some sexual humor and language

Sex & Nudity

  • 5/10
  • A very sexual joke is made about sperm.
  • A young mother says that breast feeding hurts at first, but then the nipples get tough, and she can hardly feel them anymore. She asks her sister-in-law if she wants to flick one of them, but the girl declines, saying that she has a pair of her own.
  • We learn that Reese Witherspoon's character, Kate, used to be best friends with a lesbian. Pictures are shown of them together.
  • An unmarried couple live together and have sex. We can even see them kissing and groping in a restaurant bathroom (although fully clothed).
  • Other sexual references are made.
  • Kate is taking a pregnancy test in a bathroom when her young niece walks in on her. The little girl notices the pee stick and asks what it is, and Kate says it's a magic marker. The child takes it and runs away with it.
  • Kate's grandmother, who happens to be short in stature, tries to touch Brad's lower back area.
  • Kate's grandmother says that she would like to pleasure her husband more often, with her hands and her mouth.

Violence & Gore

  • 3/10
  • Two babies vomit all over Kate in two different scenes. At one point, some of the vomit literally gets into her husband's mouth, and he is coughing and gagging.
  • Kate accidentally knocks a baby's head into a cabinet, causing him to cry. It is intended to be funny, though, and the baby is not hurt.
  • Brad's brothers are very violent, jumping all over him, kicking him, and beating him up while everyone around them laughs. It is done for comedic purposes, but it can still be considered offensive, even for some adults.
  • Kids jump all over Kate, pointing and laughing at her while she tries to navigate a Moon Jump.
  • Kate's niece steals the stick that Kate was using for a pregnancy test. She even puts it in her mouth. To make her give it up, Kate tells her that she peed on that stick. The little girl drops it and gets pale because she is so disgusted.

  • 4/10
  • Bitch and damn are both said in the first five minutes of the film. There is some other language too, such as hell and shit.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Brad's father and brother are seen drinking beer. The father says at one point that he gets "buzzed" at Christmas.
  • Kate's sister makes a reference to her being an ex-smoker.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The scenes where Brad's brothers beat him up can be considered intense, especially for audiences who are easily offended.
  • Brad tells his nephews that there is no Santa Claus, and they get very upset.
  • Damage is done to a house when Brad is attempting to install satellite for the television. There are some sparks and explosions.
