Chad Michael Murray was the first actor to be cast in the show, though creator Mark Schwahn originally wanted him to play Nathan, having seen him in bad guy roles before. But Murray himself wanted to play Lucas, because he felt that the character had a back story he could connect more to, since he also experienced being abandoned as a child.
When talking about casting the role of Peyton, 'Mark Schwann (I)' said: "They asked why I wanted Hilarie Burton, and my answer was, 'She has a lot of pain in her eyes. And I want that pain in Peyton's eyes'. We always laugh about it, because Hilarie is like, 'It's a good thing a lot of crummy things happen to me in my life'."
Since the start of One Tree Hill, James Lafferty and the cast and crew of the show host a basketball game toward the end of every season to benefit different charities. Along with these charity games, One Tree Hill has also hosted the Hurricane Katrina Relief Softball Game and, toward the end of the second season, the show's members also hosted a charity football game. At all charity events, most of the cast and crew get split into two teams and play. The proceeds of each game have gone to different charities.

The name "One Tree Hill" was taken from a U2 song of the same name. The creator, Mark Schwahn, was listening to 'U2''s 'The Joshua Tree' album. When the song "One Tree Hill" came on, he decided to make it the title. (The song itself is named after One Tree Hill, a volcanic cone in the city of Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. The tree was removed in 2000 after being attacked in 1994, however, a plaque exists there and the location is still known as One Tree Hill, or more recently, its Maori name: Maungakiekie.)
The show was originally going to be made as a TV movie with the title "Ravens". It was only when the network decided that there was enough good ideas in the concept to turn it into a complete series that the title was changed to "One Tree Hill".
Was one of a few shows in television history to jump the story's time line into the future. They jumped 4 1/2 years into the future between seasons 4 and 5. When Jamie was first written into the show, a lot of his scenes were dictated by what Jackson Brundage wanted to do. He would tell Mark Schwahn he wanted to eat ice cream, and in nearly every scene, he'd be eating ice cream. Then, he'd want to play with Antwon Tanner, who played Antwon "Skills" Taylor, so Schwahn wrote storylines for them.
During the 3rd season, the characters of Ellie (Sheryl Lee) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) worked together on a compilation CD called "Friends with Benefit" to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation. That CD was actually really released as a tie-in album, with a portion of its proceeds going directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to assist in their efforts to promote early detection awareness among young women.

Both Craig Sheffer (Keith) and Moira Kelly (Karen) have previously worked with Sheryl Lee (Ellie). Lee and Sheffer played a married couple in Bliss (1997). While Lee and Kelly played best friends in high school in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992).
James Van Der Beek who guessed starred in a few episodes was nor only reunited with his former Dawson's creek co-star Chad micheal Murray but also played a producer in Dawson's Creek his character is an aspiring director/producer
Some plot lines on the show have gone on to reality. -Season 2: Haley goes on tour with Chris Keller and the Wreckers; the actual actors/singers went on tour, selling out concerts throughout the United States. -Season 3: Peyton and Ellie host a concert and record a soundtrack to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. The soundtrack was recorded and released and part of the proceeds from the sales of the soundtrack went to the National Breast Cancer Association. -Season 5: Mia goes on tour after recording her first album with Peyton. Once that episode aired, Kate Voegele (Mia) went on tour with Hanson. -Season 5: Peyton tells Mia that she arranged for her to sing at a concert sponsored by Starburst. Kate Voegele (Mia) sang at the "CW and Starburst present Kate Voegele in Concert at Six Flags".
Jackson Brundage is the only cast member to become a regular cast member without having first appeared on the show as a guest star. He came in as a regular cast member in season 5 as Jamie, Nathan and Haley's son.
