The answer is yes. The film actually explains more about her expierence with the house after the death of her best friend Izumi in the first film.

No there isn't. People might falsely believe that The Grudge 2 is a remake. However this isn't the case because both films follow seperate storylines.

In the "Ju-on" films, the curse is spread from person to person, similarly to a disease. If Kyoko's mother Aki didn't die of natural causes (as it is also implied), she got cursed through Kyoko, who had stepped inside the house. A more clear example of a character who gets cursed through another is featured in this same installment: Tomoka's partner Noritaka, who didn't step inside but is killed by Kayako's ghost.

Many interpretations can be given to this film's ending. Kyoko, influenced/possessed by the grudge curse, could have raised Kayako from when she was reborn to that point, and was killed because the resulting little girl was still angry after all, or due to her evil nature.

This topic is also up for interpretation. While Kyoko was in childbirth, Toshio's ghost manifested and, staring at her, repeatedly called her "Okasan" ("mother") before Kyoko lost consciousness; this implies that the girl could have been the spirits of Kayako and Toshio merged. However, some have concluded that the girl was Kayako herself reborn, and Toshio was actually calling for her to come out of Kyoko. The girl also could be just another apparition of Kayako's ghost, and the woman was still dead after all, but insisting to live once again.
