Ryan Drummond, the official voice of Sonic the Hedgehog at the time, was going to voice the character in 4Kids Entertainment's English language dub of Sonic X (2003). 4Kids Entertainment declined to use him because he did not reside in New York City. Drummond then tried to move to New York City for a chance to audition for the role, but 4Kids Entertainment declined that too. Their decision enraged many fans of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Some of the story arcs in the series are pulled directly from the Sonic video games, including Sonic Adventure (1998), Sonic Adventure 2 (2001), Sonic Battle (2003), and Sonic Heroes (2003).
France was the first country to get Sonic X (2003) dubbed in its own language with everything from the original Japanese version (bar profile cards) intact.
The final episode of the series, titled "The Places Where Planets Are Born," was released about a month before the 15th anniversary of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game.
Marc Bretonnière, who dubbed Dr. Eggman in the French version of "Sonic X," also dubbed Grounder in the French version of "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog."
