Hawkman Movie May Finally Fly at Warner Bros

28 December 2009 9:49 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Warner Bros may finally be developing a stand-alone feature film for their DC Comic book hero Hawkman, according to an inside source for Pajiba.

The studio describes the project as equal parts Indiana Jones, The Da Vinci Code, and The Ghost, which meshes about as well as naming three arbitrary movies in connection with a superhero property.  My best guess is Carter Hall/Hawkman (actually an archeologist in the comics, so there’s that) travels to a tomb where he discovers ancient pottery crafted by two lovers in a passionate embrace that has historical significance about a secret society of superheroes.  There, I just wrote the plot.  You’re welcome, WB.

I’ve made my enthusiasm for the forgotten Justice League member known in the past.  I mentioned the winged bad ass in my list of “Six Comic Book Characters Who Need Their Own Spin-Off,” as well as the personal »

Inside Story: Paul Oakenfold on Brittany's Great Musical Potential

27 December 2009 2:30 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Until Brittany Murphy lent her voice to the penguin Gloria in the 2006 animated hit Happy Feet, the public had gotten only a taste of the chanteuse within the actress on a No. 1 dance club track called "Faster Kill Pussycat," written and produced by Grammy-nominated British trance artist Paul Oakenfold. "Brittany trained as a singer before she did as an actress," Oakenfold tells People. "She was a great actress but she had great vocal potential." At first, Murphy wasn't so sure she wanted to be attached to Oakenfold's song. She told People in 2006, "I've been singing my whole life and [recording] a lot of anonymous vocals. »

An autopsy was performed on Monday, with the coroner's office stating the results are currently inconclusive. The coroner's office is waiting for the results of toxicology tests before determining the actual official cause of death.

Brittany Murphy may about to cut a record deal, according to reports. Just three years ago, she and Paul Oakenfeld hit the charts with the club song Faster Kill Pussycat. She also sang covers of Queen's Somebody to Love and Earth, Wind & Fire's Boogie Wonderland in Happy Feet. Music executives are now trying to find any unreleased songs Murphy may have recorded, according to sources. 'Obviously this isn't a Michael Jackson thing, but people are definitely interested in Brittany and her story,' said one source. Brittany Murphy to launch pop career?

24 December 2009 2:34 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Actress with singing aspirations could end up in the charts if the record label decide to put out her unreleased music

In this culture of cash-in, music execs have reportedly already started plumbing the archives for unreleased music by actress Brittany Murphy, who died this week. After scoring a 2006 hit with DJ Paul Oakenfold, Murphy had allegedly worked on an album with producers Max Martin and Timbaland.

"Obviously this isn't a Michael Jackson thing, but people are definitely interested in Brittany and her story," a source from the unspecified label reportedly told E! Online. "Depending on what she may have recorded and what kind of quality it is, she could end up having a hit song or two."

In the 1990s, Murphy and Six Feet Under actor Eric Balfour formed a rock group called Blessed Soul. Later, Murphy recorded covers of Queen's Somebody to Love and Earth, Wind & Fire's »

Record Bosses Searching For Lost Murphy Songs

23 December 2009 2:06 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brittany Murphy's music career could get a boost from beyond the grave - label executives are reportedly on the hunt for previously-unheard songs recorded by the star before her untimely death.

The Clueless actress embarked on a pop career in 2006 when she teamed up with dance DJ Paul Oakenfeld and released the hit track Faster Kill Pussycat.

She also showed off her vocal talents on the soundtrack for animated movie Happy Feet, and now record bosses are searching for any hidden gems Murphy may have made to include on a possible posthumous release.

A source tells E! Online's Marc Malkin, "Obviously this isn't a Michael Jackson thing, but people are definitely interested in Brittany and her story.

"Depending on what she may have recorded and what kind of quality it is, she could end up having a hit song or two."

It is not known whether Murphy recorded anything other than the tunes already released, unlike the King of Pop, who stashed away hundreds of previously-unheard songs recorded throughout his lifetime.

Murphy died after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday.

All the film highlights this Christmas

Penguins, Nicole Kidman and Narnia – Paul Howlett picks his film highlights

Christmas Eve

Over the Hedge

(Tim Johnson, Karey Kirkpatrick, 2006) 4.25pm, BBC1

A DreamWorks animated adventure in which Rj, the cynical racoon (laconically voiced by Bruce Willis) teaches a burrowful of innocent woodland animals to forage off the waste of an encroaching housing estate rather than rely on boring old natural food, before inevitably seeing the error of his ways. Plenty of good slapstick fun for kids and cine-literate gags for adults, although it all seems a bit glib compared to Shrek and co.

Corpse Bride

(Tim Burton, Mike Johnson, 2005) 6pm, ITV1

Life, in Burton's typically weird and ghoulish fantasy, is a dull, grey affair: death is much more colourful and fun, as young Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp) discovers when he is whisked into the underworld by the maggoty Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter). Trouble is, he's in love »

Brittany Murphy: Music From Beyond the Grave?

Marvel writers excited about arrival of 'shared universe' in Avengers movie

22 December 2009 11:27 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

While we have seen superhero teams on screen before in X-Men and Fantastic Four, we've not yet seen several heroes crossing over from their own films into one ensemble movie.

This will happen in The Avengers, the 2012 Marvel Studios team-up movie bringing together Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and possibly Hawkeye, Edward Norton's Hulk, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and others.

Staff at Marvel Comics are excited to see how the concept of uniting all those characters will work on the big screen.

In an interview with Newsarama, several of them have given their views on the Avengers film.

Writer Brian Michael Bendis, who for five years has been the 'architect' of the Avengers comic, is part of the creative committee that consults on movies in development at Marvel Studios, including The Avengers.

'Bone' Producer Describes Adaptation As A Cross Between 'Shrek' And 'Lord Of The Rings'

22 December 2009 8:32 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Sherlock Holmes" producer Dan Lin is currently hard at work on a very different but no less enigmatic film project — none other than the adaptation of cartoonist Jeff Smith's "Bone."

Details on the comic book film have been fairly scarce, though Smith has previously said that he's happy with the project's progress so far. But Lin, who is producing "Bone," had more detailed comments to offer when speaking with Collider about the film. Specifically, Lin said that he and the "Bone" crew are striving for a tone that mixes the best elements of "Shrek" and "Lord of the Rings" together.

"It really looks like a mix of Shrek as far as the three Bone characters and their comedy, their Looney Tunes of Marx Brothers comedy set in a Lord of the Rings world," said Lin. "I mean, the best way tonally again is Shrek meets Lord of the Rings. »

As you've probably heard, adorable actress Brittany Murphy has left us. Murphy reportedly died suddenly of heart failure on Sunday morning. She was 32. Brittany Murphy Was Supposed To Be In Happy Feet 2

22 December 2009 12:35 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Brittany Murphy had talent that, unfortunately, she was never able to show. For me, 8 Mile more than proved that. But her acting potential wasn.t the only thing left unmet; she also had a great talent for voice acting. Not only did she play Luanne from King of the Hill (splendidly, mind you), but she also lent her voice to the animated gem Happy Feet, a role that she.ll now be unable to reprise. According to Moviehole , Murphy was signed on to reprise her role as Gloria, the baby penguin, in Happy Feet 2, which is set to begin vocal recordings in the coming weeks. Robin Williams and Elijah Wood are also set to return to their roles. Unfortunately, George Miller will likely have to recast the role or scrap the character depending on her import. It.s always tough to see actors go so young, especially when we.re »

Tragic Brittany Murphy was planning to jet to Sydney, Australia in the New Year - to reprise her role in the sequel of animated adventure Happy Feet.

The Clueless star, whose shock death shook Hollywood on Sunday, lent her voice to the original movie as the penguin Gloria in 2006.

And she was scheduled to fly Down Under in early 2010 to record her vocal for the second movie, according to Moviehole.net.

It is unknown if the role will have to be recast or cut from the movie, which is set to hit cinemas in 2011.

The star's autopsy was completed on Monday, although the cause of death has been deferred until the results of a toxicology report are completed. »

Exclusive: Producer Dan Lin on the Live Action/Animation Tom And Jerry Movie and Bone by Jeff Smith

21 December 2009 10:14 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Over the past few days I’ve been posting “7 Days with Producer Dan Lin”.  As I explained in the previous articles, I spoke at length with the Sherlock Holmes producer about not only his latest film, but everything he has in development.  Since the conversation ran so long, I’ve decided to break up the interview into many smaller parts.  I’ve already posted what he said about the Lego movie and Gangster Squad, as well as his thoughts on the Terminator Salvation ending and what’s up with future movies.  For today’s article, I’ve got him talking about the Tom and Jerry movie and the animated Bone movie - which is based on the comic by Jeff Smith.

Regarding Tom and Jerry, Lin says it’s going to be live action/animation hybrid and he compared it what was done on Alvin and the Chipmunks and Scooby-Doo. »

Warner Bros. Has a 'Bone' To Pick

21 December 2009 9:40 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Dan Lin, the producer of such films as Sherlock Holmes and Terminator Salvation, recently spoke to /Film about a live-action version of the cartoon show Tom and Jerry, which Warner Bros. is interested in developing. If you’re into the cartoon, you might find it interesting. What caught my eye, however, was Lin’s comments about his upcoming CG adaptation of the fantasy comic book "Bone", also for Warners.

Published between 1991 and 2004 by writer/artist Jeff Smith, "Bone" centered around a family of bald, white cartoon caricatures called the Bone Family. They get run out of their hometown, meet a mysterious girl named Thorn, and have a number of adventures, many of which involved broad comedy and slapstick. Fifty-five issues in total were published.

According to Lin, the project is still moving along. The questions for now are how many films they want to make and how best to divide the source material. »
