Warner Bros. shelved the film for about two years, according to Entertainment Weekly (Issue #1085).
Screenwriter and novelist Alexander Stuart wrote an early draft of the script, while Reese Witherspoon was still attached, following a studio-sponsored research trip to Barrow, Alaska (the northernmost point in continental North America) - which scientists said was the closest location in "feel" to McMurdo Station in Antarctica.

In the Scene Where Marshall Stetko Threatens to Cut off the Fingers of Russell Hayden, She holds his hand with her Left hand, While holding the Shears with her Right, but She had Her two Fingers Amputated earlier on her Left hand, Which in the Scene are clearly are present.

Right after Carrie has her fingers amputated, she knocks some things over in her room and one item is a DVD of the sci-fi classic "Them". Would have been cool if it was the classic "The Thing From Another World" since it is a right of passage for winter-overs down there.
