DC Comics February 2012 Solicitations

14 November 2011 2:00 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.

Shall we? Surely!

As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Robert Downey Jr. Looking to Play Perry Mason in Upcoming Movie

6 October 2011 7:31 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

As if Robert Downey Jr. wasn't in enough franchises, the actor is looking to bring fictional defense attorney Perry Mason to the big screen.

Variety reports that Downey Jr. and his wife and producing partner Susan Downey are looking to produce the Perry Mason movie, based on an idea by Downey Jr. and David Gambino (Whiteout) through their Team Downey production company. Downey Jr. is said to be "eyeing the project as a potential starring vehicle," but considering the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes actor has come up with the movie's story and is looking to produce, it would seem like chances are good that Downey Jr. will take the case (if you will). The production is currently looking for a screenwriter.

Robert Downey Jr set to deliver justice as Perry Mason

5 October 2011 12:29 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Warner Bros and Robert Downey Jr are set to team up again, for Perry Mason's return to the big screen.

With Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows just months away from hitting cinemas, Robert Downey Jr has just signed up, it seems, to play iconic defence attorney Perry Mason, in what Warner Bros hope will be another franchise for their books.

The Perry Mason TV series’ and films were based on the books by Erle Stanley Gardner, and often involved the titular character using a combination of his wits and other unconventional methods to prove the innocence of his client. Often putting himself in dangerous situations in the process, of course.

Downey Jr was sought for the role by Warners, and their affection for their star presumably led to them agreeing for him to have input on the story. It's Downey Jr and screenwriter David Gambino (Gothika, Whiteout, The Brave One »

Robert Downey Jr. to Star in Perry Mason Reboot

5 October 2011 11:25 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Robert Downey Jr. continues to be Warner Brothers' go-to guy when it comes to launching a new franchise, as this week they have announced that he will likely play defense attorney Perry Mason in a brand new reboot of this classic character. Mason is easily the most famous fictional lawyer of them all, a creation of American writer Erle Stanley Gardner that has previously appeared in novels, short stories, radio serials, TV shows and movies. Perhaps his most well-known incarnation was the '60s TV series on CBS starring Raymond Burr. Interestingly, the new movie will not be a modernized update but instead will be set in 1930s Los Angeles and will feature beloved supporting characters such as Mason's secretary Delta Street and his nemesis Hamilton Burger. According to Variety, Robert Downey Jr. himself is one of the producers on the project and has come up with an original »

Robert Downey Jr Is Iconic Defense Attorney Perry Mason For Warner Bros

5 October 2011 10:25 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Oh Lord, just what Robert Downey Jr needs – another franchise to his name. But if we delve deeper, this one sounds like it could be heaps of fun…

Variety says the actor who is next on our screens as the world’s most famous literary detective in the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, has now attached himself to another super sleuthing role, that of defense attorney Perry Mason in a motion picture at Warner Bros, likely the start of a new film series.

Robert Downey Jr seems to have been courted for the project and he loved the idea of starring in it so much that it will be based on an original story fleshed out by the actor and David Gambino, one of the producers who has Kate Beckinsale’s Whiteout and Jodie Foster’s The Brave One on his producing CV. He also worked as an assistant on Gothika, »

George Lucas' Star Wars Changes And Project Pitches In Today's Twitter Report

1 September 2011 10:56 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

If anyone can sympathize with George Lucas amid all of the criticism he's recently received over the new Star Wars Blu-ray changes, it's comic book creators. Ron Marz and Eric Canete both came to the franchise founder's defense with some stern words today.

On a much more serious note, creators have been banding together to raise money to help cartoonist Dylan Williams, who's currently battling cancer. If you want to help out, you could do a lot worse than picking up the Batwoman artwork that Steve Lieber put up on eBay. Check out a link to that, pressing questions and a proposed casting choice for a "Stronium Dog" movie.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for September 1, 2011.

Watch Battleship Trailer – It Doesn’t Exactly Blow Us Out Of The Water!

27 July 2011 8:23 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

On those rainy bank holidays when the family board games came out did you ever think you would see the day when a movie based off Battleship would be one of the biggest tentpoles of the year? No, we didn’t either but such is the sign of the times when a major Hollywood studio are obsessed with playing dice on brands (Monopoly, Stretch Armstrong and Oujia are coming soon!) and starting to wonder whether it’s worth bothering with sci-fi epics like Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.

Perhaps we should remind Universal not to ignorantly turn their nose up at such material when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has made as much money as it has.

You know I was listening to the rather excellent Creative Screenwriting Podcast some months back when Jeff Goldsmith used to run it and he had a great discussion with Battleship »

Blu Room: Season Of The Witch Blu-Ray

Season Of The Witch Blu-Ray 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment 2011/Rated PG-13/Running Time 95 mins List Price: $39.98 – Available June 28, 2011I can't honestly say I know what goes on in the head of Nicolas Cage, one of Hollywood's zaniest actors when he chooses a film, but it sure has been one hell of a ride. Cage earned respectability in Tinseltown by demonstrating an unwavering commitment to immersing himself in virtually any role, eventually earning an Oscar fifteen years ago for his work in Mike Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas. Three months later, Cage turned himself into an action star with the arrival of Michael Bay's The Rock in the summer of '96 and things have never been the same. There was a time when I didn't mind Cage making soulless action-adventure films because their success gave him the breathing room to take risks with small wonderful dramas like Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men, »

Suits TV Review – USA

23 June 2011 8:30 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

USA has a good history with me, and apart from Fairly Legal, it is the home of some of my favorite shows. The network stands out to me, because they live up to their slogan, "Characters Welcome," by delivering shows that focus on putting out quality characters, and staying true to those characters no matter what the cost. Moreover, the idea that shows should be fun, whether they are comedy, drama, or something in between, also seems to guide the network as a whole, and while that might not rake in tons of awards, it makes for, I think, great television.

Coming to you tonight, June 23rd at 10/9c, the newest effort to hit the network is Suits, a legal show that focuses mainly on Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams).

Harvey is a hotshot, arrogant attorney at a major law firm in Manhattan. »

'X-Men: First Class' Buzz, iOS 5, And Anthony Weiner In Today's Twitter Report

7 June 2011 8:31 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Apple butted heads with E3 yesterday, announcing their new iOS 5 for iPhones and iPads just as video game makers began rolling out their big reveals for the summer. Greg Rucka seemed to be no big fan of Apple's iCloud service, while Stephen Colbert expects the new iPhone operating system to open up opportunities.

Grumblings about shamed U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner were also easy to come across last night. Mark Waid and John Rogers swapped opinions on the matter, while buzz about "X-Men: First Class" continued to be far more positive. Check out what Chloe Moretz and David Hahn thought—and who's been trying to hypnotize himself—after the jump.

Kate Beckinsale Offered (Other) Lead in 'Total Recall'

The ever so sexy Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Whiteout) - who would be part of my own person "Total Recall" - has been offered one of the female lead roles alongside Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake Total Recall, reports Deadline who adds that she's been offered to play Lori, who was portrayed in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed actioner by Sharon Stone. She was an obvious choice considering her husband Len Wiseman is directing the pic. Duh. Both that role and the role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin) has drawn high interest from actresses. Blu-Ray Review: Deadly Dull ‘Red’ Wastes A-List Cast

1 February 2011 6:05 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – After 2010, the Golden Globes should officially retire the category of “Best Musical or Comedy” for two reasons: 1. A staggeringly small percentage of American films annually fall under the category of “musical,” and 2. This year’s nominees were so embarrassingly awful that they instantly drained the category of any future credibility.

With the obvious exception of the family drama “The Kids Are All Right,” none of the nominated pictures were the least bit deserving of a Best Picture nod. Yet unlike “The Tourist,” “Burlesque” and (arguably) “Alice in Wonderland,” “Red” is the only nominee destined to spawn an ill-advised franchise. A sequel to “Red” would be wholly unnecessary, since the original film could easily function as its own sequel, remake and TV spin-off.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0

Red Sequel in Development

26 January 2011 10:41 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Looks like our favourite retired and extremely dangerous spies still have a few more light-hearted adventures ahead of them. Fresh off their Golden Globe nomination and a $164 million worldwide box office take, Summit Entertainment has officially announced that they are working on a sequel to the action-comedy Red starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich. Although the movie was based on a comic by Warren Ellis, it does not appear that he will have any involvement in the follow-up. As reported last week by Collider [1], Summit has hired screenwriters Erich and Jon Hoeber (Battleship, Whiteout) to return and pen a new script for Red 2. Yay? There is no word yet on if director Robert Schwentke will be back, but more importantly, there are no deals in place yet for any of the stars to return either. (Clearly no one was expecting the movie to do as well as it did. »
