Sigh. I know better than to take it personally, but this is as good a place to vent as any. When Greg Rucka and I finished our comic book "Whiteout" in 1999, we thought we'd told a pretty good, pretty realistic crime story set in Antarctica. It never once occurred to us that someday internet message boards would fill up with people convinced that our cop-investigates-a-murder story was actually a rip-off of a story about a shape-changing alien. Or that we were actually imitating a story about vampires in Alaska that wouldn't even be written for another three years. I can't imagine how we failed to see that coming.
