Actor Liam Neeson is on novelist Lawrence Block's mind a lot these days. The New York novelist is chock-a-block with anticipation as one of his novels, "A Walk Among the Tombstones," is being filmed on the streets of Manhattan, and Neeson is starring as the character Matthew Scudder. Recently, Block was invited by the producers to visit the set of the movie and came away as happy as an author can be. The story of bank robbers Bonnie Clyde is a familiar one, brought most famously to the screen by Arthur Penn in 1967. But what of the Texas Rangers who tracked them down and delivered brutal, bullet-ridden justice? Their story is one that John Lee Hancock and Universal want to tell, and they’re hoping Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson will be along for the ride in Highwaymen. We've been waiting a while to see an adaptation of Lawrence Block.s A Walk Among The Tombstones. It was all the way back in summer in 2011 that the project started gearing up with I Am Number Four director D.J. Caruso attached to direct, but it has since hit a few pitfalls, including losing the director. Eventually Scott Frank, who made his directorial debut with The Lookout in 2007 and wrote films like Out of Sight and Get Shorty, became attached to helm and now the show is finally ready to go on the road. Cross Creek Pictures has announced that production is underway on writer/director Scott Frank’s (The Lookout) crime thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones. Filming is taking place in New York on the pic, which stars Liam Neeson as an alcoholic ex-cop who investigates the kidnapping of a heroin drug lord’s wife, teaming up with a heroin trafficker and his brother to hunt down the men responsible for the crime. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Boyd Holbrook (Milk) star as the trafficker and his brother, respectively, and Ruth Wilson (Anna Karenina) is also onboard as Neeson’s former colleague. The film is based on one of a series of Matt Scudder crime novels by author Lawrence Block. Just one day after Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens joined the cast of A Walk Among the Tombstones, Luther star Ruth Wilson has also signed on to star.
Liam Neeson stars as a former NYPD cop who now runs his own private investigation firm, where he operates just outside the law to get results for his clients. He is hired by a drug dealer to find his kidnapped wife, which leads him to a dangerous crime ring lead by perpetrators who have committed multiple kidnappings and murders. No details were revealed for Ruth Wilson's character.
Scott Frank is directing from his own adapted screenplay, based on the Lawrence Block novel, with Michael Shamberg, Stacey Sher, and Danny DeVito producing. Universal Pictures will distribute, with Exclusive Media Group and Cross Creek Pictures financing. No production schedule was given.

English actress Ruth Wilson has managed to spend some time with some seriously great co-stars recently due to the parts she has landed. Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is in talks to join the cast of A Walk Among the Tombstones for Exclusive Media Group, Cross Creek Pictures, and director Scott Frank.
We reported in May that Liam Neeson boarded the project, portraying the alcoholic private investigator Matt Scudder, who operates just outside the law. The story follows Scudder as he takes a case to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer. He discovers the kidnappers are linked to a number of brutal murders and kidnappings. Dan Stevens' role has not been revealed at this time.
Scott Frank is directing from his own screenplay, adapted from the Lawrence Block novel of the same name. Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are producing through their Double Feature Films company, alongside Danny DeVito and his Jersey Films company. Exclusive Media Group and Cross Creek Pictures will finance, with Universal Pictures distributing. Production will get under way next month. »

His specific role has not been disclosed, but he would join the headlining Liam Neeson. Formerly a cop with the NYPD, now an unlicensed private eye and a recovering alcoholic haunted by past mistakes, Neeson stars as Matt Scudder, who is hired to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer.
