To become the greatest band of all time, two slacker, wannabe-rockers set out on a quest to steal a legendary guitar pick that gives its holders incredible guitar skills, from a maximum security Rock and Roll museum.
This is the story of a friendship that changes the course of rock history forever, of the fateful collision of minds between JB and KG that led to the creation of the precedent-shattering band Tenacious D, and of the two heroes' quest to find the fabled Guitar Pick Of Destiny... Written by

If you are a fan of Tenacious D or a stoner, you will absolutely love "The Pick of Destiny"
If you are a fan of Tenacious D or a stoner, you will absolutely love "The Pick of Destiny". If you are not, you'll probably be either confused, annoyed, or bored. Ticket sales for the film won't be much, but concession stand sales will be at an all time high (no pun intended). I'll admit, I absolutely loved the movie. Its a surreal, pointless, and hilarious motion picture detailing the (fictional) origins of the band Tenacious D. The best way to determine if this film is for you is to watch an episode of the HBO series. If you enjoy what you see to the degree that you'd sit through the show for ninety minutes, than check this film out. Its refreshing to see a mainstream film with no intentions of appealing to a wide audience.
Its difficult to make an assessment of such a non-linear film, so I'll just mention a few of my favorite scenes. The opening explaining the pain JB had at home is the funniest part of the whole film. The rest doesn't live up to that awesome opening sequence, but its does fine. The mushroom trip with Sasquatch is disorienting and surreal. The training of JB to become a great rock musician by KG is great also. Finally, look for some funny cameos by Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, and Meat Loaf. In the end, Tenacious D are probably best enjoyed in half hour episodes, but fans of the show will find much to enjoy here. Definitely not for everyone, but one of the funniest films of the year.
