Geostorm Trailer #2 Takes Climate Change to the Extreme

6 July 2017 10:41 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Geostorm, showcasing the devastating effects of a very extreme version of "climate change." While this fictional tale surely won't sway the naysayers who think climate change is a hoax, with these massive action set pieces that show various forms of weather systems getting extremely out of control, it certainly could provide some big-budget escapism from the current political climate. This trailer hints that Geostorm may in fact be the most action-packed movie to hit theaters all year, and it could also be a dark horse box office blockbuster, starring Gerard Butler.

The story is set in the aftermath of an unprecedented series of natural disasters that threatened the planet in ways never been seen before, which lead the world's leaders to come together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. The trailer, from Warner Bros. YouTube, »

Alexander Siddig interview: Alien: River Of Pain, Star Trek

30 March 2017 5:52 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

James Hunt Mar 31, 2017

Deep Space Nine's Dr Bashir himself, Alexander Siddig, chats to us about his new Alien drama, and his Star Trek past.

Adapted from the 2014 novel by Christopher Golden, Alien: River Of Pain is a new audio drama released on Audible. We spoke to Alexander Siddig, who plays the villainous Dr. Reese about working on the production and how - as Dr. Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - he was ahead of his time...

Can you tell us about the Alien audio drama and who you're playing in it?

It was written by Christopher Golden, who's written several terrific Alien novels, and directed by Dirk Maggs, and it uses some of the familiar tropes - big deserted ship found on a frontier mining colony, people snoop around and find things they shouldn't find, and life gets pretty hectic. I play a character called Dr. Reese, »

Robert Downey Jr. is the New Dr. Doolittle

21 March 2017 9:05 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Plus: A news roundup, the best Fsr articles, and five perfect shots.

It might be difficult to remember, but Robert Downey Jr. is not just Tony Stark. For the last decade the actor’s filmography has been dominated by the role, with a little Sherlock Holmes thrown in for good measure, but other than that there have been very few gigs the actor has taken outside the franchise world.

But now there comes word, via THR, that Downey has booked his first major non-Marvel role in a little bit, and it’s quite the departure: Doctor Doolittle.

You know the good Doctor, he who can communicate with the animals and uses this power to, I don’t know, doctor them? Rex Harrison (My Fair Lady) first brought the character to life on the silver screen back in 1967, and of course there’s the Eddie Murphy franchise complete with a couple spinoffs that started in 1998, but if the »

Robert Downey Jr to star in new Dr Dolittle film

20 March 2017 2:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Tony Sokol Mar 21, 2017

Robert Downey Jr will headline The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle...

Robert Downey Jr. will grunt, squeak, squawk and talk with the animals in Universal’s upcoming The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle. The film will be directed by Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Gold) based on a screenplay he wrote that had an earlier draft written by Tom Shepherd. Universal won the rights to the film after a competitive battle for the project.

The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle is based on the character from Hugh Lofting series of children’s books from the 1920s, The Story of Doctor Dolittle, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle and Doctor Dolittle's Circus.

The story was first made into a film in 1967 when Richard Fleischer directed the musical Doctor Dolittle starring Rex Harrison. Eddie Murphy played the eccentric former physician in the 1998 Dr. Doolittle and its 2001 sequel, Dr. Dolittle 2.

Newswire: Robert Downey Jr. to talk to the animals in new Doctor Dolittle movie

20 March 2017 1:24 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Evidently jealous of his friends in The Avengers who actually have superpowers, Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to star in The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle, a reboot of the classic character created by author Hugh Lofting in the 1920s. Rex Harrison starred in a 1967 movie version of the story that won a couple Oscars, and Eddie Murphy starred in a reboot and its sequel in 1998 and 2001. And this new movie will, presumably, be another total reboot that’s designed to reintroduce the “guy who talks to animals” story to a new generation.

This news comes from Variety, which adds that Gold director Stephen Gaghan will direct from his own screenplay. Gaghan previously wrote both Traffic and Syriana, and he won an Emmy for his work on NYPD Blue, so this sounds like a weirdly prestigious lineup for a Doctor Doolittle movie, but that probably doesn’t ...

Robert Downey Jr. To Star In The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle For Stephen Gaghan

20 March 2017 11:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Though the past decade or so of his career has been spent teaming up with the likes of Thor, Captain America, the Hulk and more in order to protect Earth from all kinds of different threats, Robert Downey Jr. still finds time for non-Marvel projects. Admittedly, they’re few and far between, given that his commitment to the superhero franchise is so large, but as his involvement in the McU starts to wind down, he’s now looking to diversify a bit.

We haven’t seen him in a role other than Iron Man since 2014’s The Judge, but that’ll change soon as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey Jr. has signed on to star in Stephen Gaghan’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. Yes, the same Dolittle who talks to animals. We’ve already seen the character on screen before, both in the 1967 original, and the 1998 remake with Eddie Murphy, »

Gold review – strikes a hollow note

Matthew McConaughey as a repulsive mineral prospector exposes the naked greed of the American dream, but Stephen Gaghan’s film can’t dig any deeper

A “transformative” performance is usually regarded as a positive thing – the kind of display that is more or less guaranteed to secure awards attention. Not so with Matthew McConaughey’s unnervingly repulsive turn as Kenny Wells, a huckster and a mineral prospector who stumbles on to what seems to be a gold strike in Indonesia. It’s the kind of performance, all sweat and spittle and jabbing fingers, that lurches off the screen and into your personal space. You find yourself recoiling slightly from his presence. But the most repellent quality of the character is not the stained underpants or his clammy complexion, the colour and consistency of old wallpaper paste. It’s the naked greed. This all-American story peels back the lid of the »
