Storyline

This documentary investigates the surreal, bizarre and at the same time tragic underworld of modern eunuchs in America. Each year in the United States hundreds of men voluntarily choose to be castrated and reinvent their sexual identity for reasons other than sex reassignment. Who are they? What are their motivations? Is it legal? Should men have access to such an irreversible surgery on demand? Written by Gian Claudio Guiducci & Franco Sacchi

Ouch

The vast majority of male viewers will find themselves squirming in discomfort throughout this documentary concerning the wonderful world of voluntary castration. Yes, fellas, there IS graphic footage of the operation, and you even get to see a lonesome post-op testicle sitting on a surgical tray. Whilst riveting in its own special way, American Eunuchs is a surprisingly clinical look at several men who have had the family jewels removed from a secure location for different reasons: one heterosexual man who seems to think he's overly aggressive, a transgendered man, and a gay man who doesn't disclose why he had the op but happily displays his collection of gelding equipment. Are you sitting comfortably?
