Same old monster madness, all new faeces., 4 December 2010
Author: tyler-and-jack from Edinburgh.

Remember that part in Spider-Man 3 when the guy fell into the sand pit that was in some military testing area and was then changed into the Sandman? Imagine if that man had fallen into a sewer area with some crazy scientific mess that turned him into a giant turd and you have the essence of Monsturd.

What can you say about a movie that's all about a killer number two? Directed and written by, and starring, Rick Popko and Dan West, Monsturd is full of bad acting, toilet humour (did I even have to mention that or was it completely obvious from the title?), variable not-so-special effects and is also surprisingly enjoyable if you're able to accept what you're watching.

There's nobody worth mentioning in the acting stakes, the thing can't always rise above it's obvious low budget (some discrepancy in the sound when shots switch between two people having a conversation is the most common flaw) and everything is quite preposterous and unbelievable. Having said that, there are a number of fun movie references (with the chili cook-off treated much like the 4th July weekend in Jaws), a great South Park parody and a monster that reacts badly to deodorisers, medicine to treat bowel problems and hungry bluebottles.

Despite how everything would seem, this is actually far from a piece of excrement.
