A typical film for the time which rests on great music and Govinda's undeniable star quality
Peter_Young29 September 2021
There isn't much of a story in this little-known romantic comedy of the 1980s. The film stars Govinda in the lead, and he is so young and different in terms of appearance from how he looked in most films that shot him to fame a few years later. The female lead is the beautiful Mandakini, that rising starlet who was discovered by no less than Raj Kapoor and then got mostly typecast in bimbo roles in several action films opposite such stars as Mithun Chakraborty. She gets a more substantial part here, which is even a little comic, that of a young girl who appears on the male lead's doorstep all of a sudden and is bent on doing anything to win his heart. She's quite fun, and man, those gorgeous eyes!

And speaking of Mithun, this film is exactly the type of films he did, the same hero archetype of an aspiring singer/dancer, the same mood, and the same music. Yes, Bappi Lahiri it is. Such a talented musician and singer (even if sometimes quite derivative and unoriginal). The songs in the film are great fun. The legendary Asha Bhosle performs the best number in the film, "Tumhari Bim Hum Adhure", to perfection. Kishore Kumar's voice is terrific in "Tumne Mujhe Pyar Diya Hai", a song so strikingly similar to the numbers in Mithun's dance films. The film is nothing special, but then we have Govinda, whose star quality is good as it gets, while his dancing skills are undeniably phenomenal.

Govinda- Manda pair rocked!!

Pyaar Karke Dekho review:

A lesser known Govinda movie at the start of his career; Pyaar Karke Dekho had his trademark dance moves with bit of action thrown in. Mandakini was the heroine and she looked extremely pretty in a red saree without any skin exposure. In fact, the Govinda -Manda pair conjured an amazing chemistry together but somehow it couldn't translate to box office numbers.

Pyaar Karke Dekho was actually a carry over from 1986; was supposed to release same day as Main Balwaan but ran into censor trouble for certain scenes between Govinda and Manda fighting over a condom and bra. In the end, the bra fighting scene remained but the scene referring to how a condom works was deleted at censor's behest.

The movie had superb music by Bappida, "I am a break dancer" picturised on Govinda became hugely popular just like his 'Street dancer' song in Ilzaam (1986). Pyar Karke Dekho also has the distinction of being the first film Govinda did with Kader Khan; their association would last nearly two decades and sixty films, most of them hits!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

That young dashing cutie called Govinda

You are gonna really love every aspect of this very unheard, unhyped but totally mildly entertaining piece of cinema.

The first lovable factor is the actor Govinda himself. No wonder in the 80s he looked his cutest. In support is the wonderful and remarkable Kader Khan who gives an immensely brilliant support. You will be blown away by their comic chemistry!

Opposite him is the gorgeous Mandakini and she and Govinda makes a great pair on screen.

Amongst the other supporters Nirupaji lends a good hand.

Long story short, if you are looking forward to a good light hearted film, go for this!

Complete Family Entertrainer Of Govinda and kader Khan
bunnymehra198520 June 2011
This is the best comedy movie of Govinda in 1980's. Duo Govinda and Kader Khan did their best to make you laugh. Its a complete family entertainer of 80's. I believe this was a flop as I never heard the name of this movie before renting it out on Bigflix. Best part of this movie is the first half specially when Kaden Khan gave tips to Govinda and result of the same. There are lots and lots of funny moments in the movie which make you laugh but Songs are very irritating. On Acting part, Govinda and kader Khan are outstanding in their role. Nirupa Roy is good and will not irritate you in this one. Madakini who enters in the movie after 50 minutes is okay in her role. If you are fan of Govinda and kader Khan then don't miss this one. I will rate this 7/10
