July 12th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Cat In The Brain, Green Room

We have a busy week of horror and sci-fi entertainment releases to look forward to, especially for those of you cult and indie horror fans out there. Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Lucio Fulci’s insane Cat in the Brain to Blu-ray, and the recent indie thriller Road Games is getting a release on July 12th as well, courtesy of Scream Factory. One of my personal favorites from 2016, Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room arrives on both formats this Tuesday via Lionsgate, and Synapse Films is releasing the recent Creepshow documentary Just Desserts.

Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for July 12th include Model Hunger, Slasher: Season One, 13 Cameras, the Steelbook edition of Blood and Black Lace, and Pop Art editions of The Birds, Psycho, and King Kong.

Belladonna of Sadness Is a Lost Classic Worth Rediscovering

This Week in New DVD ReleasesBelladonna of Sadness Brings Tragic Beauty and a Call for Sacrifice to Home VideoPick of the WeekBelladonna of Sadness

What is it? Jeanne and Jean are a young couple in love, but after their fairy tale wedding the pair are brought before the local lord to make an offering. He forces himself on her instead before sharing her with his court, and when even her new husband turns his back on her she finds pained, messy comfort with a devil-sent imp who offers to help in exchange for her soul.

Why buy it? Eiichi Yamamoto’s early ’70s slice of psychedelia, erotica, and still-relevant commentary is a beautifully disturbing descent into our shared history of sexual violence, oppression, and the abuse of authority. If it sounds heavy, well, it is — it’s also extremely graphic with watercolor frames and hand-drawn animation that capture the atrocities with gorgeously imaginative imagery. It

One of USA’s Punny Shows Got the Axe
Sure, USA’s shows seem like they’re all the same with their formulaic titles and their never-ending runs. Unfortunately, all is not rosy in the land of Suits (the one about lawyers who dress well) and Psych (the one about a detective who only pretends to have special powers). News broke Tuesday that Necessary Roughness (the one about the counselor who works with football players) has been canceled. Yes, yes, it’s all very sad. But dry your tears and remember that this leaves room for the network to finally pick up on our idea for Just Desserts!

‘Creepshow’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Hal Holbrook, Leslie Nielsen, Adrienne Barbeau, Fritz Weaver, Leslie Nielsen, Carrie Nye, E.G. Marshall, Viveca Lindfors, Ed Harris, Ed Harris | Written by Stephen King | Directed by George A. Romero

Creepshow is an anthology of five stories, some written specifically for the film by Stephen King and others adapted from his own short stories. With tales that include a dead father rising on father’s day for a family reunion, macabre drownings, monsters in crates, a strange “green” infection you’ll never forget and cockroaches revenge every story has a suitably creepy and memorable end.

I could take a look at each story in the anthology but I’m sure that people who are reading this review will no doubt have already seen the film before, if not then you are in for a treat – this is a movie directed by George A. Romero, based on the writing of Stephen King,

A feature length documentary with cast and crew interviews, behind the screams with Tom Savini, deleted scenes, TV spot, trailer and stills gallery.

Up until this past year, I’d always thought ‘whatever happened to the horror anthology sub-genre?’ We haven’t had a decent one since Michael Dougherty’s 2007s cult classic Trick R’ Treat. While a recent resurgence may have seen the likes of V/H/S and The Abcs Of Death attempt to recapture that spirit,

Liveblogging “Days Of Our Lives:” The Icing On The Cake

Will and Sonny keep vigil for Chad. Is there time for a quickie in Will’s old hospital room?

This would so win on Just Desserts.

Will and Sonny are in the darkened hall on the way to their quickie when Maxine tells them that there’s no news yet. After she leaves, Will says ‘I wish there was something we could do.” Sonny’s eyes brighten and he says “i’ve got an idea. Come with me.” Quickie!

Daniel refuses to give up, dammit! Live, Dammit! Breathe, Dammit! Don’t you die on me, Dammit! Cameron and the nurse feel it’s hopeless, and I’m pretty sure the nurse is rolling her eyes. These scenes are intercut with Stefano in the chapel begging god to save his son, Dammit! Chad is gone, though. Daniel says ‘Call it,” and starts to walk away. When …suddenly … there’s a beep
