Storyline

Kumar is a very wealthy businessman and lives a comfortable lifestyle with his lovely wife, Asha, in a palatial house. The only thing missing from their lives is a son. When Asha gets pregnant, Kumar knows that all his dreams will be fulfilled and his business will be known as "Kumar & Son". Unfortunately, Asha has a miscarriage which results in her death as well as in the death of their son. A devastated Kumar takes to alcohol and devotes his energy and finances to a school for needy children in scenic Mussoorie. It is here he gets to meet the College Principal's daughter, Kiran, who he knows is in love with a fellow-collegian, Ravi. Neat Family drama
13 March 2014 | by See all my reviews

Ghar Ka Chirag is a neat family entertainer. Though the story is not new, the treatment makes for fairly interesting viewing. The film is close to 3 hours long & does drag at times. The music by Bappiu Lahiri is a letdown.

Performance wise, Neelam is quite good. Chunky Pandey is OK. The kid is fairly OK.

Rajesh Khanna has given a heart warming performance. His affection towards his "son", the dejection when his son ignores him & starts getting close to Chunky , his helplessness when he is insulted by chunky & finally when he shoots himself in the climax, once again proves what an excellent performer he is.

The film did moderately well in Mumbai & did great business in UP & Bengal.

The refreshing aspect is that this is a film without any violence or vulgarity.

All in all, a movie to be watched with family & a must see for Rajesh Khanna fans.
