Some actors would like to forget their humble roots, but not Johnny Depp. The Alice Through the Looking Glass star harked back to his rural beginnings while in a Facebook live chat coinciding with the release of the new trailer. Asked what sort of sandwich he would be, the 52-year-old used the opportunity to remind everyone that his origin story began far from Hollywood. "I was born and raised in Kentucky for the first 8 or 9 years of my life and I moved to South Florida," he explained. "My family, being on the hillbilly side ... I'd be a bologna sandwich. I'd be a white trash sandwich. »

I looked at some of the poster artwork for The Happy Ending, and yes indeed, one of the main styles is indeed like the cover of this disc -- a photo of a rusty garbage »

10 Rubbish Movies Directed By Great Actors

Warner Bros. Pictures

For a lot of actors, becoming a director is a long held ambition. The reason that this transition from in-front-of-the-camera talent to behind-the-scenes wrangler became the basis of the Entourage movie is because it’s become something of a Hollywood cliché.

Sometimes, this career switch can have brilliant results. But, seemingly more often, it goes really badly. Clint Eastwood is a prime example of both camps: Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River and Gran Torino are awesome, but they sit right next to J. Edgar, Jersey Boys and Changeling in his filmography.

Not all actors are lucky enough to get this many chances to prove themselves in the director’s chair. Some have their one big shot, totally blow it, and retreat quietly back to acting roles. Here are the worst of the worst, then, from great actors who tried their hand as directors…

The Truth is Out There: How The X-Files Forever Changed Genre Television

24 January 2016 2:25 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

[Originally appeared in Deadly Magazine #5] In 1993, The X-Files premiered on Fox, forever changing genre television, and after 20 years, its influence is still felt. No series since The X-Files has even come close to creating such incredibly nuanced and compelling storytelling than what Chris Carter’s series delivered each week for nine seasons.

What made The X-Files so remarkable was that it hit the ground running from its first episode and maintained that momentum. While Seasons 8 and 9 aren’t remembered fondly by fans, I’d argue that the storytelling still remained strong until the series finale in May 2002.

Known generally for its overarching alien and governmental conspiracy plots, The X-Files always managed to find clever and unusual ways to celebrate so many horror and sci-fi tropes, much like its predecessors (The Twilight Zone and Kolchak: The Night Stalker influenced Carter when he was first conceiving the series in the early ’90’s.)
